My choice on threads like this is always Butch Warren, ubiquitous on the (inter)national scene for a couple of years and then back home to deal with stuff.  And Tommy Cogbill, session player in Memphis and Muscle Shoals.

was Maxine Gregg (later Gordon) married to Jack at one point, or were they siblings? I could never parse that. She played cello with early editions of the Galaxie Dream Band before being with Woody Shaw and, later, Dexter, and then we know a bit of the history afterwards...

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that they were married.... Will try to remember where... maybe I just remembered what I considered most plausible

Maxine Gregg was with Woody Shaw immediately prior to moving to Dexter.

As for the Greggs. this will not resolve the issue, but there is this:

Just found this on this same forum, posted in 2009 by Tom Marcello, whom I consider a reliable source:

"Another thing that's interesting is that Woody is playing with Maxine Gregg's ex-husband." Jack Gregg, that is.
