Misterioso Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 RIP. What a loss for the jazz world. Forever grateful for his immense contributions. Quote
romualdo Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 OMG I'm shocked - he was a vital force in keeping the Blue Note label (and many others) alive - whenever I see those twofer BN LPs from the 70s I think of him I have a number of letters from him sent throughout the 90s, pre email days RIP Michael Quote
Stompin at the Savoy Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 Very sad to hear this and grateful to Michael Cuscuna. Quote
mikeweil Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 (edited) That'a s shock. The whole jazz reissue business would be much different without him. R.I.P. Never ending thanks for the excellent work. Edited April 21 by mikeweil Quote
sidewinder Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 (edited) He effectively curated my whole jazz listening life, apart from the UK stuff. Right from the time I saw those brown bag twofers put out with Charlie Lourie in the little provincial shop window - as if from Mars. Huge and grateful thanks to him for this gift. Big Beat Steve Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 Ohhh .... He was one of the persons that you figured would be around forever. And it makes you realize how time flies and how you get older too ... RIP Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 I’m my gosh. 75 seems so young. And when I think of all the music I have that he had a hand in, the mind reels.  Such a legacy, and certainly a legend of a sort, in certain parts. Quote

Joe Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 He was more than a good steward of the music, but he was certainly that. I know my life as a listener would be - and likely will be - very different without him. Thank you, Mr. Cuscuna, and sincere condolences to your loved ones. Quote
Stereojack Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 We are all beholden to him and his monumental efforts. R.I.P. Quote
Pim Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 R.I.P. mr. Cuscuna and so many thanks for all those excellent reissues. Quote
EKE BBB Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 Cuscuna was, hands down, “the reference”, as regards jazz releases. And he has given us so many hours of listening pleasure that we must be eternally indebted to him. May he rest in peace. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 A truly significant figure in jazz for the past (roughly) 40+ years. This was a complete surprise to me and I and saddened by his passing. Quote
John Tapscott Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 (edited) Michael Cuscuna was behind many of the recordings I treasure and enjoy. Many, many thanks to Michael for his great contributions. R.I.P. Edited April 21 by John Tapscott Quote
gmonahan Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 Oh my, this is dreadful news. So very, very sad to hear this. From the first Monk set on, I feel like much of my jazz listening life has consisted of following in his wake as he birthed beautiful album after beautiful album, set after set, opening me up to so much wonderful music. I will be forever in his debt. Â Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 I love the Blue Note reissues/twofers he was involved with. Â RIP. Â Quote
