Teasing the Korean Posted April 4, 2024 Report Posted April 4, 2024 Of the two Cannonball Riverside albums with Bill Evans, one is included here (Know What I Mean) and the other is not (Portrait of Cannonball). Any clues as to why? Is it simply because Bill Evans is listed as a quasi-leader on the former? I realize there are two Evans originals on the former and none on the latter. Quote
John L Posted April 4, 2024 Report Posted April 4, 2024 (edited) I have always assumed that it is because Bill Evans is a co-leader on Know What I Mean. If the box would have included all of Bill Evans recordings made for Riverside also as a sideman, then they would have had to include the Chet Baker albums as well. That's how I understood Keepnews' notes in the box set, too. There's a list of Evans' appearances as a sideman on Riverside in the booklet. Edited April 4, 2024 by mikeweil Quote
