mikelz777 Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I ordered this one (for only $15.00 delivered!) to remedy my total lack of anything Artie Shaw in my collection. Now it's time to quit buying for a while. Quote
DMP Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 The Rascals, "Peaceful World" (the one with Joe Farrell and Alice Coltrane - a disappointment 35 years ago, curious to see if it's gotten any better); Glenn Gould's 1955 recording of "The Goldberg Variations" (the new CD/SACD release -"Zenph Re-Performance" - what the hell IS this thing anyway?); and Willis Jackson's "Please Mr. Jackson." Guy Berger Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 The Rascals, "Peaceful World" (the one with Joe Farrell and Alice Coltrane - a disappointment 35 years ago, curious to see if it's gotten any better); The last track is kind of cool. I haven't paid enough attention to the rest. Guy Quote

poetrylover3 Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration. Yes I know all 50 tracks have been reissued several times, however, IMO, the sound is as good as it gets for these often primitive masters. Yes, the improved sound is worth $20 and it comes with a nice booklet, too. Curtis Fuller: New Trombone. I have mixed feelings about this release-it's likely that they could have used some rehearsal time. I'd give it three stars. I like Curtis' Savoy and Blue Note work better. Sonny Clark: Standards. Nice trio work here. I wish we'd been left more trio material. I love his feel on Blues In the Night. Peace, Jeff T. aka Blue Trane Quote
Sundog Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Glenn Gould's 1955 recording of "The Goldberg Variations" (the new CD/SACD release -"Zenph Re-Performance" - what the hell IS this thing anyway?) There was a story about this a couple of weeks ago on NPR. Here's a summary of what it's all about. Zenph Re-Performance Quote

GA Russell Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Sidewinder, I consider that one to be a classic! I got it in college, and it has a lot of sentimental value for me. I played it a few months ago for the first time in years, and I still enjoy it. Hope you dig it. Quote

7/4 Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 I took two plastic crates of records (rock & progrock crap) down to the Princeton Record Exchange today. I was going to take cash, wasn't even shopping when I saw a mint used copy of this: I'm in the middle of disk one and I like what I hear...I should have this picked this up ages ago. Quote
