AndrewHill Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 The wife hit Virgin in Times Square for me last weekend and she got me: Steve Lacy: Evidence Don Cherry: Where is Brooklyn? Ornette Coleman: To Whom who keeps a Record Anthony Braxton: Three New Compositions of New Jazz (the Delmark one) Don Ellis: New Ideas and How Time Passes A pretty nice haul. Don't have the Beauty is a Rare Thing Box, so the Ornette is largely functioning as 'new' music for me (do have Twins and Art/Improvisors though). Quote

poetrylover3 Posted May 25, 2007 Report Posted May 25, 2007 Lester Young In Washington, DC. Beautiful autumnal Prez. Lester Young With The Oscar Peterson Trio. A late classic session. Hank Mobley: The Flip I love Prez. The Mobley was a little less than stellar even with the presence of Dizy Reece, my new trumpet hero. Quote

Those Griffin's are stellar...check out the track Catharsis on Sextet which features a blistering duet between Griff & Wilbur Ware (one of my favorite jazz "moments"). Quote

GA Russell Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Today I opened up Gabor Szabo's Spellbinder, which was my Your Music queue selection from a few months back. It's pretty good, but not great. Szabo's records had a unique sound, and I think he is more valuable for that reason than for what Spellbinder alone has to offer. Quote
Matthew Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Change of Season: The Music of Herbie Nichols. Big thanks to Paul Secor for bringing this to my attention. Quote
