The Magnificent Goldberg Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 (edited) I sold my Billy Larkin & the Delegates LPs when I was on the dole in 1970. I finally decided that no one is going to reissue them on CD, so I picked up "Ain't that a groove" from Da Barstids and it turned up this morning! Oh yes, it IS a groove! No image of this anywhere on the web, it seems, so I've scanned in the sleeve. MG Edited April 13, 2007 by The Magnificent Goldberg Quote

GA Russell Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Dreams was a jazz rock band from the very early 70s. In 1971 I had their first album (self-titled), and I remember recommending it to a friend who then bought it. I don't recall ever seeing anything else by them in the stores. Some years ago, about 2000, I ordered the CD of what I believe was their only other album, Imagine My Surprise. I didn't open it up right away, and then I misplaced it. I came across it not too long ago, and waited till today to open it up. Despite the presence of Randy and Michael Brecker, Don Grolnick, Will Lee and Billy Cobham, it is not very jazzy. Less so than their first album (which also had John Abercrombie). It's not bad, but not great. Because it is of my era, I'll give it three stars. Younger people might give it fewer. Quote
ep1str0phy Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Derek Bailey: Aida Bill Dixon: November 1981 Both really, really, really good. I haven't really "absorbed" the Dixon side yet, but the Bailey is clearly one of the most direct, focused solo albums he ever assembled. Quote
BruceH Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Finally got "Let Me Tell You 'Bout It" by Leo Parker. I call this type of music "R&Be-Bop." Both bonus tracks on the RVG are very good. Quote

ep1str0phy Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 Why spend money for food when you spend it for music instead. I remember bringing some stuff up to the counter at Amoeba, and the cashier asked, "how can you afford all this?" (I had been coming in three or so times a week) My reply: "I'm a student. I don't eat." It was true--I've since improved... Quote
