PS: this picture is not the copy I bought, my copy should not have rust on it -- I hope.

The rust is what makes this set disctinctive! A rustfree box would be a first!

How thick is the metal? Bulletproof?

No. Anything above a .22 should go through it.

Got two DVDs from the Impro-Jazz series:

- Chet Baker Torino 1959 (with Lars Gullin) and Stuttgart 1988

- Rahsaan Roland Kirk in Europe 1962-1967 that has a video of Rahsaan with Tete Montoliu, Tommy Potter and Kenny Clarke.

All this material seems to have been unissued so far!

I went somewhat berserk at Tower's 40% off + 5 for the price of 4 sale. (Only "somewhat" -- I only picked up 10 cds.) The following cost me $88.89:

Albert Ayler, Spiritual Unity

Gil Evans, Out of the Cool

Jan Garbarek, Witchi Tai To

Charlie Haden, Liberation Music Orchestra

Charlie Haden & Hank Jones, Steal Away

Roy Haynes, Out of the Afternoon

Paul Shapiro, It's In the Twilight

Archie Shepp, Four for Trane

Bobo Stenson/Anders Jormin/Paul Motian, Goodbye

This one turned up this morning - "Apala messenger" by Haruna Ishola & his Apala Group. Very many thanks to Rod for putting me on to its availability.

I've been looking for a good compilation of Haruna Ishola's work from the '60s and '70s and this is great. I only had a couple of tracks I taped off the radio many years ago. Ishola was the leading exponent of Apala music, popular among the northern Yoruba who generally follow Islam. Very different from the Highlife that is more popular along the southe coast of West Africa.

I've got these. You won't be disappointed.

I'm guessing that you may already have most of these on LP?

If you want to explore further, there's a wonderful series on

the Italian label Felmay. :tup

Didn´t buy, but counted seven copies of a Three Sounds (does that make ´Twenty One Sounds´?) TOCJ CD in the blowout bin at the local (Guatemala) CD shop.

Guatemalans like TOCJs? Who knew? Kinda like Germans loving David Hasselhoff...

Well, checked how much I had left on my credit card, closed my eyes, prayed for courage, and bought this....

The Complete Bill Evans on Verve.

Supposed to be "like new," the Amazon seller had 100% positive feedback. What the heck, you only live once.

Got back from my business trip last night and this was waiting for me, and it did have rust on it, Darn! might try to get it off. This thing is a monster of a set, but everything is in great shape; now I just have to start playing the music.
