Matthew Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 (edited) Since I have zero classical music in my collection, and I happened to come into a little extra money, I went to Yourmusic.com to buy these SACDs (at $5.99 they're a good buy anyway): Seiji Ozawa Bartok: Concerto For Orchestra (SACD Hybrid) Fritz Reiner Bartók, Concerto For Orchestra (SACD Hybrid) Paul Paray Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique (SACD Hybrid) Bernard Haitink Brahms, Symphony No. 4 (SACD Hybrid) Arthur Rubinstein Chopin, Ballades & Scherzos (SACD Hybrid) Sir Colin Davis Dvorak, Symphony No. 6 (SACD Hybrid) Nikolaus Harnoncourt Mozart, Requiem (SACD Hybrid) Frederick Fennell Music Of Leroy Anderson (SACD Hybrid) Byron Janis Mussorgsky: Pictures At An Exhibition (SACD Hybrid) Charles Munch Saint-Saëns, Symphony No. 3 (SACD Hybrid) Janos Starker Schumann/ Lalo: Cello Concertos (SACD Hybrid) Mstislav Rostropovich Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 (SACD Hybrid) Fritz Reiner Strauss, Also sprach Zarathustra (SACD Hybrid) Antal Doráti Tchaikovsky: Nutcracker/ Serenade For Strings (SACD Hybrid) Van Cliburn Tchaikovsky, Piano Concerto No. 1 (SACD Hybrid) I think all of these are from the "Living Stereo" series that I keep hearing good things about. Any standout in this mess of an order? edit: to take out the double-space Edited June 27, 2006 by Matthew Quote
jbs-tom Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 A few more OJCs - in anticipation of their vanishing (like Terri Hinte). I expect they'll only give US 3 days notice of deletions if they're feeling exceptionally generous. MG great choice here, i own them too and really enjoy the hal singer and moddsville garland cd ! The Magnificent Goldberg Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 (edited) Just back from a little trip into Cardiff to buy muesli and paid a visit to the second hand store. Got these on LP Chris Foreman (from the Deep Blue Organ Trio) is on this one. Also The wonderful sounds of Ossie Scott (no image on web) Ossie, who was unknown to me until this morning, has apparently made at least 4 other albums - all, it seems, in a middle of the road, slightly Reggae/Rock Steady vein - straight sax with a bit of improvisation backed, on this LP, by a grade A Reggae band including Gladstone Anderson and Winston Wright on keyboards, Willie Lindo, Little D, Frazer and Bo Pee on guitars, Carlton Davis on drums, Scully percussion and Mikey Dread on bass. It's kind of strange - a bit like Sil Austin's late '50s and '60s albums, bt with a slight (very slight) hint of Reggae. This is the only one of the newies I've played so far; couldn't wait to hear it. Then I went into the CD section and got A 2 CD set containing 3 LPs and some bonus trax And I had to visit Spillers, to see if these two I'd ordered last week had come in And yes, they had! No money left! Came home. MG Edited July 4, 2006 by The Magnificent Goldberg Quote

tonym Posted July 9, 2006 Author Report Posted July 9, 2006 Lovely full sound in these recordings from first listen. IIRC Gdogus is a bit of a fan of this set Just wondering which of the complete string quartet boxes to go for; think it may have to be the Fitwilliam/London recordings. What do you all think? Quote

Indestructible! Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Found CDs 3-6 of the Count Basie Studio Mosaic today at Amoeba. These were just what I needed to complete the partial set I bought from Mosaic last year! LOTS of partial Mosaic discs there, but didn't grab any. I'm not a fan of these "partials" floating around again... my guess is that someone in the factory is sneaking them out again. Cheers, Shane Quote
