Snagged four discs at Streetlight last night-

Some godawful compilation disc that had Miss Toni Fisher's The Big Hurt

A 2 CD Kinks import for when I'm too lazy to dig out the vinyl

Sun Ra's Nuclear War

Peter Brotzmann's Live at Nefertiti

I was looking for a bluegrass disc to round out the absolute weirdness of the purchase, but couldn't find one that caught my eye... :g

Added a few more Blue Note/EMI releases:

Lee Morgan - Last Sessions

Freddie Hubbard - Open Sesame

Art Blakey & Jazz Messengers - Freedom Rider

Ben Webster - The Holland Sessions

I grabbed the Morgan album in spite of poor reviews and based on a listen to the first 3 songs, it really does deserve better ratings, IMO.

A couple of titles from Jazzology:

Eddie Condon - Town Hall Concerts Vol.10

This is Jazz, Historic Broadcasts Vol.1

GHB Jazz Foundation's (of which Jazzology is 1 of 9 labels) catalogue of 500+ 'trad-jazz' titles is mind-boggling to say the least. Lots of good stuff by musicians such as Wild Bill Davison, Art Hodes, Tony Parenti and Kid Thomas to be acquired from them. Not to mention more recently recorded trad-jazz albums. :tup:tup

Over the weekend I bought FUNK1 and FUNK2 at Walmart. No kidding!

These disc are full of the great funk classics I grew up on.

Superfreak, Funkytown, Lowrider, Word Up, Jungle Boogie, Sex Machine, You Dropped the Bomb On Me, Love Rollercoaster, Brick House, Car Wash... the list goes on, all the classics by the original artists all for the low ...

This is starting to sound like a commercial. Anyway I'm actually enjoying it. Brings back a lot of memories.

Thanks to the "Worst Beatles Song" thread I picked up Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper, Revolver, and that white album.

Funnily enough, having those 4 albums would also enable you to start a "Best Beatles Song Ever..." thread!

Fred Anderson: Back at the Velvet Lounge

Tom Cora: It's a Brand New Day

Spaceways Incorporated: Version Soul

And the new Diana Krall shipped today...don't ask me how it fits in, okay?

I picked up "Yardbird Suite - The Ultimate Charlie Parker Collection" today.

I'm just barely beginning to understand the magic of Bird, and my only regret is that it took me so long to discover this wonderful music!

Decided to replace my Echo & The Bunnymen cds. Think the Bunnymen are the best group from the 1980s. Rhino did a great job on these, sound great, and a lot of great added songs, demo's, live stuff, etc.

--- Crocodiles

--- Heaven Up Here

--- Porcupine

--- Ocean Rain

--- Echo & the Bunnymen
