Bayete was into something a little different there!

I like his two Prestige albums from that era a lot.  And he was really young then, 20 years old when Head On was made.  Wish some recordings of his even earlier work with John Handy were available.   Have always been very disappointed that he seemed to give up or else not be given  opportunities to continue on his path.  The Automatic Man album in the group with Michael Shrieve and others a couple years later was a musical (and commercial) disaster, then he disappeared from my musical radar.

Mine too, but he has been quite active!

Those Hills are great, if they had been on BN they'd be so much better known and regarded.

I just ordered this used 13-LP set of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau singing Schubert Lieder:

VG+, VG+ -- and silly inexpensive. 😃

Is that the complete repertoire of those pieces?

It's the second volume of two dedicated to individual songs.  There's also a third volume -- much shorter -- dedicated to the three song cycles.

EDIT: See the discogs entries below:

Couple things that had been on the want list:

schoof_manf_distantth_101b.jpg

(preordered from DG)

I'm sufficiently a Togashi fan to sometimes go for releases that stray into "new age" or the like. This one is very much in the ECM (of its era) style but I like it.

Gosh. That's a big want over here too.

Yes, finally jumped. Prices only seemed to be heading one way and I sold a heap of old non-Jazz LPs recently so had a decent fighting fund.

I listened to 'Approach' for the first time at the weekend, largely because of Togashi. Every time I thought "no, this is too smooth" something happened to snag my interest again. I definitely hear your ECM comparison.  Enjoy it when it arrives.

'Distant Thunder' is a great choice

Just taken advantage of the Blue Note Store's 20% off sale to pick up a few of the Tone Poets on my back-list (Tex Book Tenor, Byrd's Eye View etc.)

Talking of 'Byrd's Eye View' I actually handled a mega-rare Esquire pressing of that one the other week. It even had an original Transition booklet included within it.

A slippery slope.. !

Tone Poet LPs arrived today - very fast service from the UK Blue Note shop.
