Music from Europe (ESP)

People Symphony (Birth)

Oasis (Horo)

Heartplants (SABA)

looks like I have 15 or so kicking around here, but those are some favorites...

Journey to the Song Within is really strong. I have it with a white cover & pics of Hampel and Murray among others... The Traveler is a beaut as well.

Tough call but without overthinking it, here's six, couldn't get it any lower 😀

'8th July 1969'

'Wellen Waves- Berlin Soloflight'

'Oasis' duet w. Jeanne Lee

'That Come On Down'

'People Symphony'

'Heartplants' very early but very good

That being said I haven't been disappointed in any I've bought. I will be very interested to hear what you make of your imminent arrival.

Thanks so much for these recommendations!  :tup

We both live in Göttingen and know us for many years.

All the Things You Could Be Right Now if Gunter Hampel Was Your Neighbor

Some of my favorite Hampels from the early years haven't been properly issued -- the recording with School, Tchicai, John Stevens a.o.; Hampel/Schlippenbach/AMM...

Finally part 2 of my Japanese batch arrived today. Collective birthday gift from my whole family for which I am very, very greatful.
Part from the Marion Brown I already owned the others on cd but as they are among my five star albums I still wanted to have a good vinyl copy.

Digging further into Hampel's sound-world:

Thanks again to @mjazzg and @clifford_thornton for the recommendations.  :tup

I also ordered this LP:

Along with Mike Westbrook, Graham Collier, and others, it seems like Mike Gibbs was part of a flowering of UK jazz composers in the late-60s and early-70s who focused on large ensembles.  I know and enjoy Gibbs' In the Public Interest, his collaboration with Gary Burton, but I'm wanting to explore a bit further.

I wish Vocalion's CD reissue of Gibbs' two Deram LPs was still available.  The only US-based discogs seller who has it wants $48.  😲 . . .  That's too pricey for me.  Oh well.  At least both albums are available for streaming.

I remember when ‘Chrome Waterfall’ came out on vinyl, it was quite a popular release at the time. Gibbs had some crossover success - maybe getting music credits for ‘The Goodies’ comedy TV show helped !

Last time I saw him live he was conducting a youth orchestra as part of his 80th birthday celebrations, covering his own arrangements, must have been in 2017. Very enjoyable.

I bought the three-disc Duke Ellington Live and Rare box for under $7, which will complement the Centennial box.

As part of the current Qobuz sale I went on a HighNote splurge and bought:

Woody Shaw - Live, Volumes 1-4

Woody Shaw and Louis Hayes - The Tour, Volumes 1 & 2

Larry Willis - I Fall in Love Too Easily ( The Final Session at Rudy Van Gelder's)

Gene Ludwig-Pat Martino Trio - Young Guns

Lester Young - Pres in Europe

Charlie Ventura and Bill Harris - Live at the Three Deuces, Volumes 1 and 2

Hot Lips Page - After Hours in Harlem

For 12 CD-quality downloads, I paid $33.25.  I gave up on trying to choose between those Woody Shaw live albums and simply bought them all. :g

Excellent choice!! I’ve yet to hear a live  Woody Shaw disc that I’ve regretted getting — all, what?, 27(?) of them?, I’ve lost count.  Anyway, I’ve got like 85% of all the live Woody Shaw discs out there, and they’re almost all amazing.
