Kevin Bresnahan Posted March 30, 2022 Report Posted March 30, 2022 I pre-ordered Ben Allison's latest, "Moments Inside" on vinyl. Ben is an interesting player and on this one, he's gone to the mellow side. From the samples, it sounds like a good combination. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 30, 2022 Report Posted March 30, 2022 I got a couple of gospel albums I've already got on LP from Amazon to save the trouble of ripping them. Revival Temple Mass Choir - Touch me lord Jesus - Savoy (1986) Keith Pringle & the Pentacostal Community Choir - Prayer & faith - Savoy (1983) MG Quote

I note they're available to stream, as much of Savoy's gospel is. Quote
T.D. Posted March 30, 2022 Report Posted March 30, 2022 Dusty Groove order, mainly filling holes in the Tapscott collection (they stock a lot of Nimbus West releases): Quote

For top rank choirs on Savoy, you want the Georgia Mass Choir, the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer Choir, or the Florida Mass Choir. Donald Vails Choraleers and Rev Clay Evans with either the AARC Mass Choir or his own church choir - the Fellowship Choir - are both very, very good indeed. But you can buy gospel choirs on Savoy with the assurance that they'll be good. Also on Malaco. Not ALL of Savoy's gospel albums are available on streaming. None of Solomon Burke's four gospel albums are on there. Only about half of James Cleveland's are there. MG Quote

HutchFan Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 A few LPs that are due to arrive in the mail today. Quote
DMP Posted April 13, 2022 Report Posted April 13, 2022 A couple of those ‘Jasmine’ reissues of Jimmy Deuchar’s ‘Tempo’ material, and Stan Getz, “Children of the World,” which hasn’t gotten any better over the years. Quote
HutchFan Posted April 17, 2022 Report Posted April 17, 2022 CDs I've ordered recently: This is the first of two albums that Adderley's terrific quintet recorded at the Keystone Korner in 1982. I already have -- and love -- the second album, Blue Autumn. And more singers: Quote

Rabshakeh Posted April 22, 2022 Report Posted April 22, 2022 Just got the new reissues of Tshona! by Pat Matshikiza and Kippie Moketsi and Shrimp Boats by Lionel Pillay and Basil Coetzee, both second hand and apparently never played. Someone must have got them for a birthday present or something and taken them straight back to the shops. Anyway, a good lunch break. Quote

Nothing better than a Friday lunchtime record shop, especially when it turns up such gems. You're lucky to have a shop in easy striking distance of work (or home). And now you won't feel the need to queue up tomorrow for RSD Quote

No one's favourite record store, but better than many, and you sometimes find some good stuff. I'm still jealous of the Tottenham Lane shop, though. Edited April 22, 2022 by Rabshakeh Quote

That was my local for a good while and I try and pop in if I'm in the area as often something worth looking at. Their Crouch End shop is now nearer. Tottenham Lane is good but getting a bit pricier I think edit to add: the one I wish I lived or worked close by is Atlantis who seem to have a never ending supply of interesting new stock if instagram's anything to go by Edited April 22, 2022 by mjazzg Quote
Pim Posted April 28, 2022 Report Posted April 28, 2022 Two vinyl boxed sets. Already had the music on other media but the Mulligan/Baker on a 4cd PD set by Lone Hill Set. Never liked the sound nor the packaging. Always had a special bond with the Mulligan/Baker Quartet as my father used to play his Best Of cd compilation a lot! The Tatum I already had on cd in separate volumes. Call me a sentimental fool but this is music I'd like to hear on vinyl. The volumes with Eldridge, Carter, DeFranco and Webster are all favorites of mine. The trio with Callender and Jo Jones is desert island material. Managed to get it in a neat state for 60 euros including shipping. Quote
