But I think his recordings from the following decade -- with his "Grupo" -- are even better. The band, which came together in 1981, consisted of Hermeto, Jovino Santos Neto (kybd, fl), Itiberê Zwarg (b, tu), Carlos Malta (sax, fl), Márcio Bahia (d, perc), and Pernambuco (perc). The group stayed together for twelve years. Since they rehearsed constantly with Pascoal serving as a mentor and quasi-guru (in an almost Sun Ra-like way), they developed near-telepathic levels of interaction and memorized massive quantities of Pascoal's music. The four astonishing albums that they made during the 1980s -- Hermeto Pascoal & Grupo (1982), Lagoa Da Canoa Município De Arapiraca (1984), Brasil Universo (1986), and Só Não Toca Quem Não Quer (1987) -- deserve to be MUCH more well known. Finding this music on CD or LP (at a reasonable price) can be a bit of a challenge. Fortunately, most of it is available on the internet. To listen to Lagoa Da Canoa Município De Arapiraca, click here. I had the honour and pleasure of playing a jam session with that band in a Frankfurt club after their concert. One of my drum buddies brought his Brazilian percussion teacher along, and he simply took the whole bunch to the club where Brazilian pianist Izio Gross was in the house band. He and Hermeto played some thrilling four hand piano on Caravan, Tico Tico and the like. Hermeto was so nice ..... I will never forget that night. HutchFan
Yesterday, I ordered Steve Turre's first two releases as a leader: Viewpoints and Vibrations (Stash, 1987) Fire and Ice (Stash, 1988) Anyone know who has ownership of Stash Records these days? They put out some interesting stuff back in the day. Edited May 2, 2021 by HutchFan

jazzbo
I won on eBay 7 "24Bit by RVG" Japanese Blue Note releases, all complete with OBI, for 97 dollars including postage. A few are in the "hard to find without losing a limb" category. I feel I did good. I enjoy collecting this series.

No you're right, it's part of the Superbit Jazz Classics, another series I collect--remastered by McMaster. (The regular US cd is remixed and remastered by Addey). My bad counting it in among the 24Bit by RVG titles. Edited May 7, 2021 by jazzbo

Pim
I work as a high school teacher with kids with behavioral issues. Or kids with special educational needs. Believe it or not but we make less money than ordinary teachers. To compensate we receive some kind of bonus this month. Time to treat myself (please do not tell my wife): All on brand new vinyl Except for the Chick that's a used one.

For someone doing your job you deserve that bonus on a monthly basis. Enjoy your records, some great ones in there. I need to get the Khan Jamal. Now all you need to do is work out a way of sneaking them into the house, or just admit to it
