rostasi Posted March 25, 2005 Report Posted March 25, 2005 Brian Eno - More Music For Films I understand that Astralwerks has screwed up yet again? That tracks 18 and 20 (or is it 17 and 19?) are the same piece? "Climate Study is actually the piece "Approaching Taidu"? Just curious to know before I buy this first pressing... Thanks! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Picked up the Gillepiana/Carnegie Hall Concert rerelease at Borders today. Damn it, I was supposed to stay away from the CD section! Quote
JSngry Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 (edited) Is yesterday ok? A new Half-Price Books & Records opened up in McKinney, and I just happened to stumble on it on the way to taking my car in for servicing. Serendippity, if only on a small scale. CD: Jimmy Raney & Sonny Clark - TOGETHER (Xanadu) Nat Cole/Buddy Rich - ANATOMY OF A JAM SESSEION (Black Lion) Don Byas - TENOR GIANT (Drive Archives) The Cole was $7.98 (star-power, I suppose...), the others $4.98. LP (all @ $4.98!): Sonny Rollins - EASY LIVING (Milestone -not a great record, but I needed a copy anyway) Carmen McRae - CAN'T HIDE LOVE (Blue Note - not a big McRae fan, but arrangers include, a.o., Thad Jones. Gerald Wilson, & Johnny Mandel, so hey, for that price...) Teo Macero - ACCOUSTICAL SUSPENSION (Doctor Jazz - feature a piano duet between Mike Nock & Mal Walron. as well as 6 cuts by a group that includes, a.o., Gato Barbieri, Dave Liebman, John Stubblefield, Jorge Dalto, LArry Coryell, and....Lionel Hapton How do you NOT buy that?) Dexter Gordon - MORE THAN YOU KNOW (Inner City release of the Steeplechase classic) And finally, the one that I nearly expelled a loud "WTF" over when seeing it... WILD BILL DAVIDSON & EDDIE MILLER PLAY HOAGY CHARMICHAEL, a 1981 RealTime Records Digital recording. I mean, jeez, Eddie Miller in Direct To Disc (sorata, I guess) Digital. Who'da thunk it? GA Russell Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Jim, I believe I saw Eddie Miller with Pete Fountain in 1967 in New Orleans. That was a fun concert. Quote

(BN) don't know that I'll be playing this one too frequently... Anyone try, and recommend, any of the Naxos Jazz titles? Quote
wolff Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 Duke Ellington: Piano in the Foreground (Classic Records LP CS-8829) Johnny Griffin: A Blowin' Session (MONO) (Classic Records LP BN-1559) Eddie Henderson: So What (Eighty-Eight's LP) Quote

Jazz Kat Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 What do you think of it? I used to always love it, but one morning on the way to classes I was listening to it, and it was very boring for some reason. I know how can it be boring, you got Blakey and friken THREE TENORS!! But for some reason there wasn't that special flare. I haven't picked it up again. Tell me what you think of it. Quote
James Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 Well, not purchased today, but my latest is "Long Yellow Road" --- the Akiyoshi/Tabackin orchestra. I've been wanting this import for a long, long, time. Quote
kh1958 Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 A few from the used CD store: Sonny Criss--Intermission Riff (Pablo OJC) Art Blakey--New Year's Eve at Sweet Basil (I'd never seen this one before on ProJazz, but it's a rather good one from the Blanchard/Harrison/Toussaint edition of the Messengers). The Swinging Guitar of Tal Farlow Delmark 50 Years of Blues Anthology. I was going to stop there, but I made the mistake of going into Border's, which is still having a buy 3 get 4 sale, and next thing I know" Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section (to keep the LP company) Magic Sam Black Magic (another friend of the LP--not as good as West Side Soul but the second side is still good) The Best of Sidney Bechet (Blue Note) Jimmy Smith Rockin the Boat.
