MartyJazz
Found this at a used CD/DVD store in Tamarac, FL for $7.99: Two years ago, while on a brief visit to my native NYC, I stopped by the Vanguard after midnight (had checked out Gary Bartz at the Jazz Standard earlier in the evening) to check out Greg Osby and was favorably impressed, yet had not thought to pick up a CD until now. Half of the disc is devoted to G.O.'s compositions within a quartet setting - good stuff. But I really enjoyed stimulating versions of "Bernie's Tune", "'Shaw Nuff" and "Summertime", wherein Nicholas Payton joins the front line. Finally, Joan Osborne guests for a vocal on "Lover Man". Very good find!

brownie
Today was the first day of winter sales. Went to the large stores to check the items for sale! Bought too much, once more! Virgin had many 5€ items (Japanese CDs went at 9€). No vinyls. FNAC had the sales items at 3€, CDs and vinyls. Virgin was selling quite a number of Tzadik and Chronogical Classics at 5€. Bought several Japanese piano trios CDs (Kenny Drew, George Cables). Also Evan Parker & September Winds FMP's Alder Brook. FNAC was also selling several Tzadiks. Got a couple of Masadas, plus Zorn's Madness, Love and Mysticism. At 3€ each, took the chance and hope not to be disappointed! At FNAC got some SteepleChases (including Von Freeman's Lester Leaps In and Walter Davis Jr's Scorpio Rising). Plus Enrico Pieranunzi 'Alone Together' with Philip Catherine, also an Yuri Horning's Seven. With a rhythm section of Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motian, that one should be good! Grabbed a few Sun Ra Saturn reissues on vinyl also. I had my hands full. And will have an earful for a long time! The sales are supposed to go on for a full month. But the interesting items are sold within the first hour Edited January 12, 2005 by brownie
