erwbol Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 Finally found an affordable copy at $48. That's a steal. Great set. LPs or CDs? CDs. My first purchase at Discogs. The US seller has a 100% rating and the CDs and book are in VG+ condition. The box has a little wear. He/she sent me some pictures. Now here's to hoping it will get through customs unnoticed. Quote

erwbol Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 The 2013 Christmas Family Miracle Money Music Box This year in stereo! From your posts here and elsewhere these last few hours I get the feeling you are trying to communicate something. Either that or you are poor at moderating yourself. Quote

mikelz777 Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) Picked this up at Half Price Books for $4.50. Chet Baker & Stan Getz - West Coast Live (2-CD) I somehow discovered this one by accident and unfortunately the group only put out two releases which is a shame because these guys have a great sound. The Prestige CD pictured below contains all but 1 song from their two releases, The Modern Jazz Disciples and Right Down Front. There is also a Fresh Sounds release of the same material which includes the song missing from the Prestige release. I really dig their sound. Beside piano, bass and drums, the lead instruments are alto/tenor sax and the normaphone. I had no idea what a normaphone was and I discovered it's a slide trombone shaped like a sax. The Modern Jazz Disciples kind of remind me of The Jazz Crusaders. Check them out, this CD is well worth acquiring. Justin V Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 I like to use gift cards to pick up discs that are a bit more than I usually like to spend. After stumbling upon and loving James Williams' Magical Trio 2 (with Ray Brown and Elvin Jones), I am glad that I just purchased: James Williams - Magical Trio Quote

ElginThompson Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Been wanting to supplement the Master Takes for years and finally found a copy at a decent price. Quote
TedR Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Finally couldn't resist buying the Rubinstein Complete Albums Box and Haydn Complete Symphonies with the Importcds 10% off sale. Then had to add Lester Bowie All The Numbers (nessa) and Flute Fever (international phonograph as a pre order) to the order. When I write "couldn't resist" and "had to" about spending money, that's a clue I need to be careful. :-) Quote
imeanyou Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Original Japanese pressing on King Records with the obi. Pristine vinyl, sounds divine. Another King first pressing with obi in top notch condition. Will be playing this over the weekend. Quote
T.D. Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 Importcds.com is having a 10% off sale, so I ordered: Mauricio Kagel, Sankt-Bach Passion Charles Tyler, Saga Of The Outlaws BTW, importcds is also running a promotion on Universal Music Group box sets, and I've found them a good source of Black Saint/Soul Note boxes, so the sale might be worth a look. sidewinder Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) Another King first pressing with obi in top notch condition. Will be playing this over the weekend. That is the definitive vinyl version of this LP. Other issues of this one (US) sound very 'tinny' and thin to my ears and so do the various CD issues. Edited December 7, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
Head Man Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 ... and very nice it is too. Thanks for recommending it to us Chuck! Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 Today's haul is all gospel Inez Andrews - A sinner's prayer - Savoy - a 1980 recording that seems to have been resurrected on CD in 2004. Georgia Mass Choir - I still have a praise - Savoy - their latest album, from last year Savannah Community Choir - It's alright now - Malaco - one from 1998 I've never heard of before finding it by accident. Steve Reynolds Posted December 11, 2013 Report Posted December 11, 2013 Whole bunch ordered for the Holiday including: King Crimson: Road to Red - big splurge here - but this has always been the band for me in many ways. I was into the band long before I discovered jazz. And I think this incarnation of Crimson is unmatched. I even like the fact they are almost a heavy metal band by the time they got to the States in 1974 Ken Vandermark's Resonance Ensemble: the box from 2009 and the new 2 CD set 3 other Not Two releases including Dragonfly with Weasel Walter and Paul Flaherty in the quartet Plus Spirits Rejoice from Louis Moholo which has been a long time coming Gerald Cleaver's Black Host - I've seen the band live and they are great - and I'm hoping the CD is somewhat representative Quote
