ejp626 Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Generally slowed way down, but I did order the Vogue recordings of Don Byas and then the Szell Decca/Philips box set:. This last one is a particularly sore point as I ordered it through an Amazon vendor. It never turned up. I complained and they claimed (eventually) they sent a replacement copy. I doubt very much that either was sent, but the length of time had gotten so long there wasn't much to do other than post a negative review. But it is going out of print, so I figured I had better act now if I ever wanted it. Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Finally "caught up" on new listening enough to order Chuck's new Hal Russell CD, as well as the one Von Freeman and the one Roscoe Mitchell Nessas I somehow didn't have. I'm looking forward to it - Russell's ECM albums take the top of my head off. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 In the mail, the massive box set...... Quote
JETman Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 In the mail, the massive box set...... If you're as big a fan of this music as I am, you will enjoy this boxed set for the music as well as the presentation. Happy listening! Quote
Stefan Wood Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 I didn't think I would get this set, as I ordered very late. Looking forward to it!!! Quote
Uncle Skid Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 Rudresh Mahanthappa - Samdhi First CD I've purchased from a real brick-n-mortar store in a very long time. Still not sure what to think about this one, it will need repeated spins. I usually love anything that Rudresh does, but this one confused me on first pass. Quote
B. Goren. Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 I ordered this 4 CDs set from Amazon UK for £8 (Including shipping). Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 A bunch of LPs from PeteB turned up this morning. What with water being intermittently cut off for the last couple of days, I only just managed to get to hear them now. Various Artists - Live at the Apollo 1944-1947 - Everybody's Phew! Some cracking playing from a bunch of great big bands, and even the Duke and Basie are overshadowed by Erskine Hawkins! Erskine Hawkins - Swingin' in Harlem - Vocalion (Tax, Sweden) Very nice early sessions from 1936-38. Never heard any of this stuff before. Lionel Hampton & his orchestra - 1948 - Alamac Live broadcast stuff with the band veering towards, and sometimes leaping into, bebop. Fats Navarro & Benny Bailey to blame Arnett Cobb - Arnett Cobb is back - Progressive Every bit as good as you think it should be. MG Quote
