Huge thumbs up for Change!

I'm not the biggest Hill fan, but the clips sounded interesting. I look forward to listening to it.

So what do you think Paul? Hope you're enjoying this date.

On first listen, I was more drawn to Sam Rivers' and J.C. Moses' playing, but I'll be going back to it. There's more for me to hear there.

Several CD acquisitions at the weekend:

Oliver Nelson/Lem Winchester 'Nocturne' (OJC Limited)

:tup :tup :tup

one of my favourite Nelson albums!

I had it on an old UK Fontana vinyl (in great nick) but the CD eluded me and I want this one for the I-Pod. At £4, the price was right !

Really went for it last week:

Jackie McLean - Capuchin Swing

Clifford Brown - The Beginning and the End

Charlie Parker - Complete Live at the Cafe Society

Introducing Carl Perkins

Earl Hines Orchestra - Harlem Lament

George Gershwin - Piano Rolls

Al Cohn & Zoot Sims - Jazz Alive! At the Half Note

Cecil Taylor - Nefertiti (Revenant)

Roscoe Mitchell - Congliptious

Roscoe Mitchell - The Maze

Roscoe Mitchell - Nonaah

Air - Air Time

Charles Tyler - Saga of the Outlaws

Lester Bowie - All the Numbers

I'm excited to hear the Nessas and am also glad to check off two titles-- the Brownie and the Taylor-- that I've been looking for at a reasonable price (and how on the latter-- 16 bucks!) since I first started on jazz.

Charlie Byrd Latin Byrd

Don Ellis New Ideas

Don Patterson/Sonny Stitt Brothers-4

Paul Desmond Paul Desmond Quintet

Red Garland All Kinds Of Weather

They came out to around $6.4 apiece.

Also found a number of titles available via Concord's website that are cheaper than those offered by Amazon Marketplace vendors:

George Wallington The New York Scene

Red Norvo Music To Listen TO Red Norvo By

Gerry Wiggins Relax and Enjoy it

Jim Robinson New Orleans: The Living Legends - Plays Spirituals and Blues

Don Ewell Man Here Plays Fine Piano

Burt Bales They Tore My Playhouse Down

Red Garland The Nearness Of You

I'm giving myself a couple more good-sized purchases before I say goodbye to the Fantasy umbrella and move on to something else (or saving money).

Finally, I got shipping confirmations of a couple VSOP albums(the Red Norvo and Harry Babasin titles) from Deep Discount after placing an order back in December 2009.

Jimmy Forrest On The Trail

WTF!!!!??? Never heard of this one. Some more details would be terribly helpful, please.

MG

haven't checked anything, but i guess it's "jimmy heath", not "jimmy forrest" in this case (good album though)

Niko is right, it's Jimmy Heath.

Penguin Guide says the ablum is "less arresting [than The Quota]; more of a straight blowing session, it doesn't play to Jimmy's real strengths and the production seems oddly underpowered, as if everything has been taken down a notch to accomodate Burrell's soft and understated guitar lines. 'All the Things You Are' has some moments of spectacular beauty.... Good straightforward jazz, but not a great Jimmy Heath album."

Not quite a ringing endorsement, but I like Heath and don't always agree with Penguin, so I'm looking forward to it.
