Thelonious Monk Straight No Chaser

Well, my copy of Johnny Griffin's Take My Hand turned up, but it had this ridiculous cover and was probably some kind of a rip-off.

It sounds ok and has the correct tracks (in a slightly jumbled order), so I probably won't go through the trouble of returning it.

Anyway, this led me to go through Griffin's discography, and I learned about Birdology v. 1 and 2 where he is paired with Jackie McLean and a rhythm section of Duke Jordan, Ron Carter and Roy Haynes. I'd never heard of this. Even if it is just a blowing session, I felt I had better grab it. There are still some copies floating about for not too much.

Then MG convinced me to picked up the Stitt 2-fer Move on Over: The Eddie Buster Sides.

And I also ordered Ghana Special: Modern Highlife, Afro-Sounds and Ghanaian Blue 1968-1981

But other than that I've been good.

(Hoping Santa will bring me Vonski Speaks.)

I already had most of the tracks on the McDuffs, but the rest is new to me. Haven't heard the Hawk, Milt or Hopkins/Tate yet (saving the best for the last), but I'm very pleased with the rest.
