Norm
A few days ago received an order from Tower Records including the following: Lee Morgan - Lee-way Miles Davis - Filles de Kiliminjaro Hank Mobley - Quintet Cannonball Adderley Quintet Live at the Lighthouse For some reason, they mistakenly included the soundtrack to Finding Forrester which features tunes from Miles and Bill Frisell. But since I've been busy with two of the Coltrane Prestige box sets I haven't even unwrapped any of these CDs from their shrinkwrap.
sidewinder
Some great second hand CDs: Helen Merrill 'You, The Night & The Music' (Verve Gitanes) Charlie Parker 'Confirmation - The Best of the Verve Years' (Verve doubletime 2CD) Mike Gibbs 'Tanglewood 63/Michael Gibbs' (Vocalion 2CD) Edited October 11, 2009 by sidewinder
mikelz777
The Complete Piano Music of Scott Joplin (4-CD) I've been listening to the sound samples for this set steadily over the last week and have really come to enjoy John Arpin's solo performances of these numbers. I finally ended up ordering the box set today figuring I can't lose when the 4-disc set (Ebay "buy it now") can be had brand new and delivered for less than $12.00. king ubu
Some great second hand CDs: Helen Merrill 'You, The Night & The Music' (Verve Gitanes) Charlie Parker 'Confirmation - The Best of the Verve Years' (Verve doubletime 2CD) Mike Gibbs 'Tanglewood 63/Michael Gibbs' (Vocalion 2CD) The Gibbs is great (though there seem to be no detailed session infos available for either albums, alas). And the Merrill is sublime! ********** Ordered Patton's "Accent on the Blues" from a US ebay vendor (20$, no biggie with the $ so cheap). I fell for Amazon's CDR plot (back when it still said "Audio CD" in the big description and the actual info was hidden in the small print) and have been annoyed over that ever since... now I'm still missing "Blue John" (by the time I saw that one up on Amazon again I was smart enough to check the small print...) Also bought the second release by BraffOesterRohrer at their concert last night - very good one, just gave it a first spin: BraffOesterRohrer - Walkabout (Unit Records UTR 4203) And I received a small order from a Swiss vendor I wasn't aware of, which still had these three in stock, amazingly! "Akisakila" is the German Konnex version (of which I found "Akisakila Vol. 2 / Lono" used a few years ago), and the ZoKoSo completes my run of Koller's MPS reissues. All three of them were albums I thought I'd have to do with CDR copies, glad to have found them!
WorldB3
I wasn't going to buy any music yesterday but I ran into the owner of my local vinyl shop while walking my dog and he pulled me in and I am a sucker. Picked up some good vinyl though. BruceH
The CD of English Settlement just came in. I used to have the British vinyl double-album with only three or four songs per side. I eventually sold that and eventually began to regret it. Kind of annoying how the CD booklet simply reproduces the album's song-listing and lyric sheet at CD size, so you would need a powerful magnifying glass to read the lyrics (at least I would.) I'll never understand why "Fly On the Wall" wasn't released as a single.
The Magnificent Goldberg
Back from North Wales yesterday and found, waiting in the hall: Very nice (and cheap!) compilation of ABC material, very little of which I've got already. But doesn't include "Worried life blues". Still... Also, two from Gunther Gretz: I thought Gunther had issued this on Popular African Music, but it's an old issue on Bolibana, as it turns out. He also had this one in stock, so I sprang for it, too. Both were quite expensive, but they're both fabulous albums. And none of the tracks (I think) are included in the recent Sterns compilation of Keletigui & co, which is highly admirable! MG

mellowT
I bought the Art Pepper Hollywood All-Star Sessions from Amazon Marketplace's Newbury Comics today. I verified that indeed it's not a cutout or UPC gouge, but fully new retail. I've played all 50 sound samples 3 times today, so I think I'll enjoy it. Also took a chance on the Bud Shank/Bob Cooper Mosaic Select that's still available on Amazon. Not sure if they'll in fact deliver in the 1 to 3 weeks promised. The last one on eBay went for almost $100, so $64 is a bargain in comparison.
