papsrus
Ordered a couple of things last night: Giants of Small Band Swing, vols. 1 & 2 Libby Holman -- "Moanin' Low - Early Recordings 1927 - 1934" I was led to the Holman by some tracks she appears on recorded July 1929 with The Cotton Pickers on the Timeless Historical release "The Original Memphis Five, Napoleaon's Emperors, The Cotton Pickers 1928 - 1929." A wonderful disc. The tune with Holman that caught my ear was "He's a Good Man to Have Around," of which there are both a vocal and instrumental version on the Cotton Pickers disc. Lovely tune. Anyways, looking forward to all three of the above.

poetrylover3
Freddie Hubbard Without A Song: Live In Europe 1969 Jackie McLean Old And New Gospel What's your opinion on the Hubbard? Apart from some disturbing cymbal work of Louis Hayes on some tracks, this is a remarkable set of music. Freddie is on the top of his game. Definitively recommended. I would be interested if others share my opinion regarding the disturbing cymbals ? I agree.IMO, Hayes is overly busy at times on this day, still in all I really enjoy this recording. It's defintely a must-listen
