Freddie Hubbard Without A Song: Live In Europe 1969

Jackie McLean Old And New Gospel

What's your opinion on the Hubbard?

Apart from some disturbing cymbal work of Louis Hayes on some tracks, this is a remarkable set of music. Freddie is on the top of his game. Definitively recommended. I would be interested if others share my opinion regarding the disturbing cymbals ?

Stopped by my favorite local CD store after a rehearsal today and was picked up:

Sun Ra Featuring Pharoah Sanders & Black Harold (ESP-Disk); just reissued, apparently, with five extra tracks. Looking forward to hearing it.

"Stopped by my favorite local CD store after a rehearsal today and was picked up"

uh....keep your sordid affairs to yourself -

It would be interesting to see your purchases (if any).

I don't think I've managed to post anything here without at least one stupid typo. What I meant to say, of course, was:

"Stopped by my favorite local CD store after a rehearsal today and was picked up by the spirit of Sun Ra and transported on golden beams of sound to the outer reaches of the universe."

Or something like that....

Nice comeback.

The Modern Red Norvo

Ran into Ed Diehl at a local bookstore a few weeks ago and got to talking about Tal Farlow. I mentioned that I've had a tough time getting into Tal Farlow's playing. Tal Farlow is one of Ed's biggest influences, and he suggested Farlow's early recordings with Red Norvo and Mingus as some of Farlow's most relaxed playing on record. So I'm looking forward to hearing this.
