The Magnificent Goldberg
Postman brought some goodies this morning Fela Kuti twofer of "Everything scatter" and "Noise for vendor mouth". Excellent stuff! Over twenty years since I had a new Fela Kuti to listen to! "Duke Ellington meets Coleman Hawkins" - courtesy of Paps' great sale! Thanks Paps, very fine music. BruceH
Yesterday bought Donaldson's Lou Takes Off. Figured with Donald Byrd, Curtis Fuller, and Sonny Clark it probably wasn't chopped liver. But it's the most convincing leader date I've heard by Donaldson, who up til now I've pegged as someone who sounded better as a sideman. The Magnificent Goldberg
This LP turned up today from Dusty Groove Been looking for this forever!!!!! It's not the reissue on Ubiquity - it's a sealed (well, it was sealed) copy on Bam-Boo!!!! Surely at the price I paid it can't be an original? Is someone repressing this? papsrus
This is the third time in recent weeks I've ordered a 'new' disc from amazon marketplace sellers that were listed incorrectly. In the case of the Artie Shaw disc above, which arrived today, and Lester Young's Complete Keynote, I received discs issued by the Jazz Heritage label with black and white cover art instead of by the label described in the listing. Question: Is anyone familiar with Jazz Heritage? The covers make me suspicious that they may be CDRs or some other kind of copies, but I just don't know. Just pushed the button on these three: Buddy Tate -- "The Texas Twister" Lucky Thompson -- "Jazz in Paris: Modern Jazz Group" Flip Phillips -- "Flippin' the Blues Vol. 2 1949-1951"
