The Magnificent Goldberg
Little shopping trip to Cardiff and a visit to the second hand record shop. Snagged cheap copies of Nice 2CD set and I've only got 8 tracks on my other Reed compilation. Even cheaper and just as well, because I'd forgotten that I already had "Plug me in" on a Collectables twofer (coupled with "High voltage"). So. OK. The Magnificent Goldberg
Two more of the great big bands turned up this morning. As Buddy Johnson's is my favourite big band, I thought I ought to extend my measly two LPs into a more comprehensive selection, so I've started with these, which were fairly cheap - though postage from France is expensive. I only have about four of the tracks on the two CDs already. Great swinging band; wonderful songs; great singers. Who could ask for anything more? papsrus
And the Johnny Dodds Frog is essential stuff! I ordered that one earlier but the seller sent me a different disc with the same title, a Past Perfect release. It's fine, but I am looking forward to the Frog. Several folks here regard it as you do -- essential.

papsrus
Good to see that there's at least one person who hasn't been affected by the state of the economy. I owe it all to the generous and equally hungry-for-new-(used)-music members here who gobbled up a long list of CDs from me that I no longer listened to! So really it's kind of a giant CD swap, in the grand scheme of things. And in that spirit, one last one today that I couldn't pass up after visiting the hep thread: Bennie Moten -- "1929 - 1932: Band Box Shuffle" (hep)
