ghost of miles Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 (edited) McCoy Tyner, NIGHTS OF BALLADS & BLUES. Yesterday: very bad. Bought a used, near-mint COMP. BILLIE HOLIDAY ON VERVE, even though I already have most of the material... also used copies of Don Byron's TUSKEGEE EXPERIMENTS, an Irene Kral w/Junior Mance on Fresh Sounds, and the Silos' CUBA. Herbie Hancock - My Point of View, The Prisoner Jimmy Smith - Groovin' at Small's Paradise With these I am finally up to date on all RVGs. I have the Aug 10th batch on pre-order so at least for a while I can claim to have them all! Quote
jazzbo Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 I ordered the new Mingus on Verve today (The Great Concert), and the three Ellington cds that will be coming out next week (Blues in Orbit, Piano in the Foreground, Piano in the Background). All pretty cheap from cduniverse! Quote

7/4 Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 three disks, only one is jazz: Anthony Braxton & Max Roach - One in Two, Two in One. The other two are Ellen Flullman (on the Long String Instrument) - Staggered Stasis and Fripp & Eno - the Equatorial Stars. Quote
Quincy Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Having earlier resisted the siren's (okay, wesbed's) call to buy the Shorter-Kelly Mosaic, I found a couple of used Vee-Jays while running around town. Wynton's Someday My Prince Will Come and Introducing Wayne Shorter. Each one was in a different store. Quote
SEK Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Last night, I ordered "The Great Concert of Charles Mingus" from CD Universe. I haven't heard it in almost 30 years. Quote
Matthew Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 The Faces: Five Guys Walk Into A Bar... All I can say is that this a one fantastic box set. Quote
LAL Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Some copy protected RVGs but since they were selling cheap... Freddie Hubbard - Breaking Point Art Blakey - Buhaina's Delight Dexter Gordan - Dexter Calling Meet Betty Carter & Ray Bryant Quote
jazzbo Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Those Bastards! I went to Dusty Groove, noticed they had reduced the price of a box set that I had my eye on, so I ended up buying the second of the Universal Nara Leao box sets. Gonna be good. I needed a Brazilian fix and this will be a big one. Quote
BruceH Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 Finally found the Sal Salvador Conn. 10"----used! Twelve of the tracks have Eddie Costa on piano and vibes, always a plus. So far it strikes me as just as good as any in the 10" series, and better than some. Now all I need is the Julius Watkins! Quote
jlhoots Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 Japanese CD issue of the Lou Mecca Blue Note album. Quote
couw Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 just bought a Czech 45rpm 7" with Karel Krautgartner & his Orchestra on side A performing some pretty WACK "Dance Fantasy" titled Neons. Lots of C-Euro classical elements. Side B is Gustav Brom & His Orchestra doing Fantail (Hefti) and Laura (Raskin), the latter ideal BFT material. Bought it - or rather put it on the pile and took it with me - for the cover of course... Quote
Sundog Posted August 4, 2004 Report Posted August 4, 2004 Teddy Wilson Mosaic I'm flying totally blind here! Relying totally on board members opinions on this one. Never heard any of this music before. Quote
JohnS Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Thelonious Monk London Collection Vol 3 (remastered). I've not heard any previous cd issue but this one sounds pretty good. The notes mention that it includes two tracks not in the Mosaic box. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Finally found a copy of 'The Rajah' TOCJ and the Pepper 'Complete Surf Ride Plus'. Quote
