Postman just delivered Wayne Shorter, The Soothsayer (RVG).

With Freddie Hubbard, James Spalding, McCoy Tyner and Tony Williams in 1965. Now listening for the first time to what is sounding like a superb album :)

Jews in Hell.

Jews in Heaven.

Jews in Limbo.

Jews Doing the Limbo.

nahh, not really - just picked up Dirty Laundy 1 and 2, collections on the German label Trikont (careful how you say that one) of black singers doing country music - brilliant suff, with the MOST astounding version of anything I have ever heard, Junior Parker doing Walking the Floor Over You (and Junior Parker is one of the few things Dan Gould and I agree on) -

Just arrived: John Graas Nonet, Jazzmantics (Lonehill)

Was enjoying Coup de Graas so much recently, thought I must get the Lonehill which combines this with another album to produce 77 mins of playing time. The Andorrans do have their compensations!

I can't believe this was available from Amazon Marketplace/Newbury Comics for less than $11 including shipping. I had to jump on it. :excited:

Tony Fruscella - The Complete Works (4-CD)

I just got this Friday and I'm really looking forward to hearing it. The front sticker has some great selling points.

-Two fine and rare dates made under the leadership of Stan Getz.

-The only studio session recorded by the altoist Chuck Maures.

-The "birth of the cool style" four tracks with saxophonists Herb Geller and Phil Urso.

-The legendary performance at the New York's Open Door with Brew Moore.

-The splendid session with true musician's musician-tenorist Allen Eager.

-The concert encounters with Phil Woods and Hank Jones.

Sounds like it's going to be a winner!

Postman just brought me two separate packages.

Sharles Williams' "Stickball" was one I hadn't noticed had been reissued. Fortunately, Hiroshi was able to get me one. Very nice, perhaps not quite so good as his previous two.

La Negra is another singer in the Concha Buika mould - singing a combination of jazz, house, soul and flamenco. She's based in Madrid. Her real name is Graciana Silva. I have her other album under that name on order, too. Produced by the same guy who produced Concha Buika's last album, "Mi nina lola" (and her latest I think) - Javier Limon. I'm waiting until my wife goes out to pick up the grandsons from school to play this one nice and loud!

Well, this is beautiful music! She's much more jazz-oriented than Concha Buika - in fact, there's very little R&B in this. She's also a much more serene singer than Concha, whose music is ecstatic. Comparing her to Concha is a bit like comparing Ella Fitzgerald to Nina Simone.

Looking forward to her earlier album. Maybe tomorrow.

^ You should be happy with that, inspired playing by Hank Jones and Tony Williams. Unfortunately Ron Carter was going through his thin sounding amp sound at the time but they were still a great trio. If you like it make sure to get the live albums from the Village Vanguard.

Johnny Griffin Griff n' Bags (at Dusty Groove for the ridiculous price of $7 -- I think they had two left). They claim they will also be carrying Lady Heavy Bottom's Waltz soon, though Griff n' Bags appears to cover nearly all of that release.

I also got a 1 CD sampler from the What It Is box set and Chet Baker-Art Pepper The Route.
