Parkertown Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 McCoy Tyner, Live at Newport This is such a great set! And the 20bit domestic disc, IMO, sounds just amazing! Definitely "you are there" sound on that one. I'd love to hear what you think... Quote
B. Goren. Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 Two CDs I received today. The first one is one of favorite trio: Kuhn-Humair-Jenny Clark: Live @ Theatre de la Ville, Paris 1989. IMHO, this trio is one of the best of the last 20 years (Hiroshi, thank you again). The other one is African Suite for trio and string orchestra (Abdullah Ibrahim). Quote

Definitely "you are there" sound on that one. I'd love to hear what you think... I like it! Got to hear it some more times, but the first impression is very positive! A bit on the short side - I'd love to hear more of the quintet, but the two trio tracks are very good, too! Tyner definitively smokes! ubu Quote

Tyner definitively smokes! ubu need to spin it again, memory tells me I was underwhelmed Could be the same thing as the currently active "night of the cookers" thread demonstrates, but to a lesser extent. A live session of some good cats working, not stellar, not THE great record, but just a glimpse. And for that I think it's good enough (I got it cheap, anyway). Then, I'm very much into Mariano (although I don't have all that much of his music). And Tyner rather surprises me on it, as he seems more agile, and looser compared to the two trio Impulses of his that I have. ubu Quote

BruceH Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 Take the 'A' Train--Betty Roche Yesterday I was at a restaurant where they were playing this album. I asked about it and they were nice enough to show me the album. With Eddie Costa and Conte Candoli, no wonder it sounded good! Well damn if I didn't see it today for $5.99---life gets lush. And it's a Bethlehem album; did they ever put out a bad one? I seem to recall some talk about this singer a while back on this board. Well, I think she's good. Quote
