The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Is 'Space Flight' Grant's second recording? Second issued recording. He played on a 1956 session by Tommy Dean (another St Louis organist) in 1956, which has never been issued. Dean sounds like a big influence on Lazar; his combo was rather like Doggett's but, instead of plodding, Dean's band FLEW! I'd love to hear what GG did in that context. I think Dean was probably quite important in a local way. MG Quote

Even though I did NOT like Grant's bio, i'm gonna look through it again because when i read it I had just gotten into jazz and knew nothing about most of the organists mentioned. Quote

I'm looking forward to both as he shares the front line with Zoot Sims and Phil Woods on the first CD and with J.R. Monterose on half of the second. It should be some pretty nice stuff. Quote

I've got it, and I like it a lot. I know a lot of people poo-poo Proper, but this box is a good way of getting a lot of Navarro for a little diniro. (Money, that is. Greenbacks. Treasury tea.) Quote
