Prices seem to get a little more reasonable too. These items were all on my 64 piece wantlist so I felt very lucky. And I didn’t make even one impulsive buy. The discipline of me. I’m getting better at these things. I'd love to go to Den Bosch but not too sure I could be so disciplined as you @Pim Some great stuff there, the Jefferson is terrific, do you know the one that Sam Records reissued? It's an absolute gem. Quote

I'm going to spin it again before deciding where it sits with reference to the original. I do know that I like Calderazzo's piano playing quite a bit, so at least that's not a problem in comparison. Your recommendation brings back my memory: I saw it a few months ago on the Sam website and it sparked my interest 9 hours ago, Holy Ghost said: Wow. Never even heard of that Taylor/Murray title. Regret selling the Rene Thomas CD, but I needed to sell off part of my collection to survive while in college back in the 90's. No Cecil Taylor on that one it’s actually Jimmy Lyons and Sunny Murray with John Lindberg on bass. Intense and highly recommended music! Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 14 Report Posted April 14 Last night, I picked up a few CDs at my local Bull Moose Music store. Charlie Haden & Quartet West - In Angel City (Verve). I've had Quartet West's 1st CD for decades & saw the band several times but never got around to picking up their 2nd release until now. I also picked up a used copy of Peter Gabriel's latest, "i/o". I got the 3 disc set with a surround mix on BlueRay. I like Gabriel's work so I'm wondering how he'll treat the surround tracks. Quote
mjazzg Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 Can't go wrong with Charles on ECM as far as I'm concerned, enjoy them Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 15 Report Posted April 15 Yesterday, at the urging of my friend @Tom 1960, I sampled a newer (10/2024) release from drummer Jacob Wendt titled "Silver Street". The band plays in a style that harkens back to The Jazz Messengers and Wendt has said that this was what they were going for so kudos to the band for hitting their target. It's not a copycat tribute but an updated take, so no fear of that. You can sample/download it at bandcamp: Silver Street, by Jacob Wendt . I wanted the Kevin Gray-cut LP version (which is not on bandcamp for some reason) so I ordered that LP from The 'In' Groove. While I was at The 'In' Groove website, I decide to pick up Gray's Chohearant label's latest release from Corey Weeds while I was at it. Quote

I've seen this album posted numerous times on my Instagram feed, so figured there must be something going on here. Definitely not disappointed. Quote
T.D. Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Ra, Noah Howard and assorted MPS. Happy to have found the John Taylor. Edited 5 hours ago by T.D. Quote
mjazzg Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago (edited) A couple of LPs by French vibist Michel Hausser, 'Vibes+ Flute' with Bobby Jaspar 'Holiday for Vibes and Cembalet' which featuring Michel Portal All in all hitting sweet spots of vibes, flute and clarinet. A new player to me, apart from some judicious online sampling. Edited 4 hours ago by mjazzg Quote
