Some great stuff there, the Jefferson is terrific, do you know the one that Sam Records reissued? It's an absolute gem.

I like it. I'm going to spin it again before deciding where it sits with reference to the original. I do know that I like Calderazzo's piano playing quite a bit, so at least that's not a problem in comparison.

Haha it was hard. So many interesting and rare records. That Jefferson is on my radar! Your recommendation brings back my memory: I saw it a few months ago on the Sam website and it sparked my interest

No Cecil Taylor on that one  it’s actually Jimmy Lyons and Sunny Murray with John Lindberg on bass. Intense and highly recommended music!

Last night, I picked up a few CDs at my local Bull Moose Music store.

Charlie Haden & Quartet West - In Angel City (Verve). I've had Quartet West's 1st CD for decades & saw the band several times but never got around to picking up their 2nd release until now.

I also picked up a used copy of Peter Gabriel's latest, "i/o". I got the 3 disc set with a surround mix on BlueRay. I like Gabriel's work so I'm wondering how he'll treat the surround tracks.

Can't go wrong with Charles on ECM as far as I'm concerned, enjoy them

Yesterday, at the urging of my friend @Tom 1960, I sampled a newer (10/2024) release from drummer Jacob Wendt titled "Silver Street". The band plays in a style that harkens back to The Jazz Messengers and Wendt has said that this was what they were going for so kudos to the band for hitting their target. It's not a copycat tribute but an updated take, so no fear of that. You can sample/download it at bandcamp: Silver Street, by Jacob Wendt . I wanted the Kevin Gray-cut LP version (which is not on bandcamp for some reason) so I ordered that LP from The 'In' Groove.


While I was at The 'In' Groove website, I decide to pick up Gray's Chohearant label's latest release from Corey Weeds while I was at it.

I like what he did on this recording. I've seen this album posted numerous times on my Instagram feed, so figured there must be something going on here. Definitely not disappointed.
