Stompin at the Savoy Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 This arrived today. I'm enjoying it. The box, CD sleeves and the book are cheap, underwhelming, and printed in tiny type but whatever, the music is great. Quote

I had no idea about that, thanks for highlighting. I've just found they're performing the scores in March Edited December 31, 2024 by mjazzg Quote

Their algorithm recommended a bunch of Delmarks (and variants) at $0.99 through $3.99. Selected one and then piggybacked more algo recommendations plus one that was on my watch list. They do have clickable links for "Sale Items", "CD Deals" and "LP Deals" now. Scroll down a DG page and look under "Special Offers" in the left column. Warning: you can spend a lot of time and/or $...I guess that's why the sobriquet "The Bastards". 😁 Looks like they've recently modified the site a bit...IIRC the CD link used to be something like "CDs $8.99 or less". For instance: CD Deals (new/used, sorted ascending by price) LP Deals (ditto) Edited Wednesday at 07:21 PM by T.D. Quote
JSngry Posted Wednesday at 08:03 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:03 PM Ok, I was wondering because the physical store has a literal "Bargain Basement". Literally some cut rate stuff that is literally in the basement. At least it did when my daughter was there last time. We shopped via videochat. It's sort of an Island Of Misfit Toys and has never been listed on the website that I know of. Still isn't! 44 minutes ago, T.D. said: Warning: you can spend a lot of time and/or $...I guess that's why the sobriquet "The Bastards". 😁 Exactly!!! They got me with these: Elliott Carter — Piano Works – Winston Choi Beethoven — Complete Cello Sonatas/Variations On Themes From Mozart's Die Zauberflote – Pable Casals & Rudolf Serkin Awakening — Hear, Sense & Feel Awakening — Mirage Llew Matthews with Jackie McLean — Nathalie Jaki Byard — Solo/Strings – Jaki Byard With Strings/Solo Piano Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted yesterday at 06:41 PM Report Posted yesterday at 06:41 PM Last night, I bought two of Greg Abate's latest releases after I saw him perform at Arthur's House of Jazz in Methuen, MA. One is titled "Positive Energy" (Summit Records). He made it when he was on tour in New Mexico with a local rhythm section of John Rangel (p), Terry Burns (b) & Dave Rost (d). The other is a 2 CD set that I meant to buy from Greg the last time I saw him live but he sold the last copy before I could get one. It's Greg's live recording with Phil Woods "Kindred Spirits: Live At Chan's" (Whaling City Sound). Quote

Greg signed it but was a bit saddened I think that I went for that one and not one of his newer CDs. I'd aimed to put that right at one of his fairly frequent UK tours but so far I've yet to catch a more recent gig (usually with the Craig Milverton Trio when in this part of the country). Hopefully he is back at Swanage in July for me to check out his box of goodies. Edited yesterday at 07:35 PM by sidewinder Quote

He said he's got a new one coming out soon so maybe he'll have that with him the next time you see him... although he did say that it's gotten really bad for CD sales at his shows recently. Quote

JSngry Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago The physical "bargain basement" had a bunch of "well played" records mostly under $2.00. like at Josey, basically a lot of crap, but you might find something quirky enough or something just for a cover. Quote
