No shame in Discogs surely It's a great album and just sometimes it has to be done...how the kids will take to bread and water for the rest of the month is a different matter altogether
Rabshakeh
My only consolation is that, with this purchase, my 'Evil Jazz' shelf is now finally full. One in one out from here on in. And the kids didn't really need those new shoes. Edited September 16 by Rabshakeh
mjazzg
And it was easy getting into the piggy banks too I guess... 'Evil Jazz' shelf, interesting concept Edited September 16 by mjazzg

The shelves are "Nice Jazz" (also including some Classical), "Evil Jazz" and "Not-Jazz". The evil jazz section is divided off so that my wife knows not to play those records when friends around, although she sometimes does for effect. Oddly the 6 year has recently started to explore Evil Jazz. Not sure what he really gets out of it.

I'd have Karyobin in 'Nice Jazz', it's not nearly as scary as it's reputation my suggest. Now that Doyle, definitely 'Evil Jazz'. My partner has a similar categorisation, 'Evil Music' for all Jazz... Stompin at the Savoy
I've had this on my Amazon wish list for a while. It came up today with a good discount: $10.16 total, so I plunked. I like Harry Edison. I also ordered this one recently and it arrived today. I noticed I had a Gene Ammons deficiency and picked it up when the price dropped to $13.12 (unfortunately went up again). His first albums as leader were around '55. Some great music in pretty decent sound on this compilation.

JSngry
Jug started making leader dates around 1950 and had already made a buttload of 78s by the time of that first LP. Also, the Ammons- Stitt things. The dude was quite prolific from the beginning!

The title was actually Classic Early Albums. So that still makes sense to me. Some material from the early 50's made it into the included Soulful Saxophone, a late 50's compilation. JSngry
Ok But...there were 10" LPs of those earlier 50s records before these. Prehistoric in design, but they existed nonetheless.

Rabshakeh
Got kicked out of the office for a fire drill so went to the market. It was nice to be there early for once before the good stuff had gone. I bought a copy of Mr. Hands by Mr. Hancock and a Snooks Eaglin comp.
mjazzg
I'm beginning to wonder if I can introduce these type of fire drills whilst working from home...
