(Planet Arts/Now Jazz Consortium) - William Cepeda - Bombazo: Grupo Afro (Blue Jackel) - Francisco Mário - Retratos / Conversa de Cordas, Couros, Palhetas e Metais (Milestone World Music/Caju Music) - Diane Moser - Birdsongs (Planet Arts) - Milton Nascimento - Miltons (Columbia) - Scott Tixier - Cosmic Adventure (Sunnyside) - Bruckner: Symphony No. 7 / Bruno Walter, Columbia Symphony Orchestra (Sony Classical) - Debussy: Images; Études / Pierre-Laurent Aimard (Warner Classics) - Granados: Alicia De Larrocha Plays Granados and Others (MCA Classics, 2 CDs) - Roussel: Symphonies Nos. 1 "Le Poème De La Forêt" and 3 / Charles Dutoit, Orchestre National De France (Erato) - Schumann: Phantasiestücke; Blumenstück; Davidsbündlertänze / Vladimir Ashkenazy (Decca) - Strauss: Don Quixote (with P. Fournier); Hornkonzert No. 2 (with N. Hauptmann) / Herbert von Karajan, BPO (DG) As the cost of used vinyl continues to rise, the cost of used CDs keep falling. So there are some amazing deals to be had out there. The total for all of these (including shipping & tax) was $32. That Bonilla album is a gem. Quote

A bargain indeed .... a lot of good music, probably highlighted by Roussel/Dutoit .... Quote

HutchFan Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 My wife & I are in North Carolina, visiting one of her friends. I took a few hours this afternoon to hit a local record shop. Got some excellent music and very good deals. In fact, I pulled these ten LPs from the dollar bins: All in VG+ condition -- or better. I also picked up these: Pretty nice haul. Quote

I have heard this music in various forms over the years. In fact, I'm pretty sure I owned it on CD at least once. But I found an inexpensive used Japanese CD in my local record store so I thought I'd give it another listen. It's been a while since I've heard it. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 1, 2023 Report Posted January 1, 2023 I think it's a fascinating musical document, and I don't personally feel that any of the three "come up short." Quote

Gheorghe Posted January 2, 2023 Report Posted January 2, 2023 12 hours ago, Brad said: In what way? Somehow Mingus and Max are not always "Hand in Glove" like I had expected. And as much as I love Ellington´s compositions, I fear I like it more if it´s played by other pianists. I had similar problems when listening to the "Duke and Trane" thing. But music is something so great that I like to state that it could be my own fault if it didn´t get as much to me as it should be supposed. Quote
Pim Posted January 3, 2023 Report Posted January 3, 2023 First out of two batches from Japan plus Khan Jamal’s Drum Dance to the Motherland that I picked up from a local seller. These arrived from Discogs seller Ella records. Very satisfied as usual: well packed and fair prices. Not like European or USA sellers that ask +30 E above the median price. And what I like most is there sincerity in grading. This Meditations sleeve got rated VG. With most EU sellers these days that means bent corners, edgewear, a cut out plus some ringwear. Now this is what VG looks like according to this Japanese seller Quote
