That's unfortunate news; he made some nice records and was a good composer too. IIRC he wrote all the tunes on the album that featured a frontline of Louis Smith and Ralph Moore. That remains a favorite which I was able to flesh out with unissued tunes a few years ago.

RIP, I was pleased to discover him via a CD reissue of Five Cats Blues.  Great record. Sonia is the stand out tune. I don’t recall any coverage of him in the UK press or if he ever played over here. Shame.

Incidentally, Five Cats Blues, is I understand Sardaby’s first release, from 1967 and is a live recording. Anyone know where it was recorded? There is no info in the sleeve notes.

Bummer. Fine pianist and composer. Been catching up with his discography recently. NIGHT BLOSSOM on DIW (mentioned above) was my introduction to him. The Ellingotn connections ran deep with him and his music.

Thanks! It’s a great hard bop date. I have a Mantra CD reissue. Looks a bit dodgy.

Tom Lord's discography has it listed as: Centre Culturel Americain, Paris (Saint-Germain-des-Prés) , October 1967.
