ESPN has huge contract with SEC.

ESPN has rights to all "playoff" games.

That committee was going to install a 1-loss SEC team over an undefeated FSU team by hook or by crook and by fuck, they did.

The ACC was 6-4 against the SEC.  FSU won two games on the road against the SEC. They beat 4 top 25 teams. Their "weak" offense without Jordan Travis had more yards in the ACC championship game than Michigan did in the Big 10 championship. They held a top 20 offense to six points in the ACC championship. Oh, and 3rd in strength of schedule - BETTER THAN ALABALAMA.

This is a joke of a travesty of a criminally dishonest corrupt organization.

Okay, I was fixated this weekend on these games. I was convinced it was going to be Michigan-Washington-Fla. State- Texas. I was shocked that they put Bama in. I understand the logic. I hated watching the Fla State game (so boring). I do think the Mich-Ala game will be awesome BUT I do agree that Fla State should have gotten in. I don't know how you leave an undefeated team out completely...

After last year's CFP disaster, they likely didn't want to take a chance of the ratings going south like they did for this past year's World Series aka MLB Gave A World Series And Nobody Gave A Shit (except for Sangrey & me). Football is not about one player.  

College football is deeply flawed, especially relative to the NFL.  Unless of course you pull for the Big 10 or SEC.

Ratings driven decision. I live in ACC country and folks are fit to be tied but Bama brings in viewers while FSU does not. It has almost nothing to do with putting the right teams in there.

I'm kinda glad I stopped following NCAA football years ago. It was stuff like this that did it for me back then.

The refereeing in the NFL has me close to dropping them from my watch list these days too.

It seems they can pick teams based on two different sets of criteria:

1. The top ranked teams with the best records.  Under this scenario FSU deserved to be in the final four, over both Bama and Texas.

2. The current "best" teams.  This is subjective, and appears to be what they used to justify not picking FSU.  I believe they felt that as of Sunday, Bama was a better team at the present time than FSU.  It's not really provable, other than FSU being on their 3rd string QB, and therefore not a dominant team.  One thing in Bama's favor (I guess) is that their strength of schedule was ranked 5th, while FSU's was ranked 55th.

The problem is that they can pick when they want to use the first criteria or the second criteria, and don't have to justify anything.

I agree with you 100%.   It's indefensible, a complete sham.  

I follow the Georgia Bulldogs.  We didn't win, and we were rightfully excluded.  I just say this to let you know that not all people who follow SEC football are "SEC homers."

It's RIDICULOUS that FSU was excluded.   They should have been the three seed, and Texas should have been the four seed. 

Records have to matter.  Otherwise, why play the game?

Your right.  It ends up being a "beauty contest."  And they can base it on anything they wish.

Sorry Aggie but that just isn't how any honest choice should be made.  (And before I get into that  let's just point out that the second string QB is not likely to be still held out in 30 days for a semi-final game.  They might be "down to their third string QB" but he doesn't have a broken leg.  He will play against GA and would have played in the game they should have gotten chosen for.

As for the rest - it's just total bullshit.  As the AD said:

FSU has every right to be livid.  Sadly the “solution” will be coming next year with the expanded playoff.  Expect the top four teams (i.e. those with byes) to be filled by the SEC and Big 10 between now and forever.  If you root for a team from one of those two conferences or are a casual fan, great.  If you are an undefeated team from the ACC or Big 12, be “thankful” that you are in. 

Perhaps this is slightly cynical, but who would have ever thought the PAC 12 would have been blown up?  Stanford and Cal in the ACC?  And WSU and OSU out in the cold.  And decades old rivalries being discarded.

Don't get me wrong - I'm in agreement with you.  FSU should be in.  Bama shouldn't.  

My comments were an explanation of how this stupid group gets to decide who they want in, based on effectively any criteria they want to use, which changes based on the team they're considering.  For some decisions, records matter.  For some decisions, who they "think" is the best team currently is what they choose.  And the committee has the luxury to pick which criteria they want to use at any point in time.  And not be consistent with their justifications.

I think the problem is that there are five Power 5 conferences, but only four seats available.

If there were only four power conferences, the playoffs could be with the four champions.

(I am also very much against rematches.  When I was a boy, LSU played Ole Miss again in the Sugar Bowl.  Not long ago the national championship game was a rematch between LSU and Alabama.  Maybe nowadays many of these conference championship games are rematches.  Army plays Navy only once.)

I still think that UGA would have beaten them, but now we will never know what FSU would have done with a fuller squad. The transfer portal start needs to be moved to the day after the championship game and it should be limited to one use per player.
