Stepping into lesser known territories .... :

Conjunto Crema "Yo Si Como Candelara" (SAR Records)     1980 .... pure vocals by Roberto "Dofy" Mier .... some trumpet heaven from  Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros  .... the beyond belief tres performance by Victor "Chino" Trias .... btw still available for a pittance @ "secondary markets" ....

The early releases on Inca Records .... the trio "From The Depth Of My Brain", "El Rey Del Ritmo" and "El De A 20 De Willie" on Top Hit is great .... but actually it's hard to go wrong with him at all ....

Hard to choose any, all the more so as I prefer Cuban music, which is not Salsa in a strict sense (Tito Puente, e.g., hated the term) - Salsa may be described as the variant of US Puerto Rican. 

But this gives a good sample of one of the great players:

Tito Puente's Golden Latin Jazz All Stars "Sunflower" (TropiJazz/Sony)    1992 .... all star groups rarely live up to the expectations, but this combo hits the spot 100% .... btw superlative performance by Andy Gonzalez ....
