What are the two additional tracks and are they available separately? (I know that may be answered somewhere in this thread but-- as is often the case-- I'm getting confused.) Quote
Brad Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 Solar Records release is $30 (not a huge fan of these kinds of releases). RSD is $22. Remastered by Bernie Grundman. Solar, just copied from original record. Quote

jazzbo Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 (edited) Probably not--they probably did some tweaks to disguise their theft. And they may have used stereo mastering from Candid releases where Mosaic chose the mono source. Or they may have used tweaked Candid stereo sources throughout--I have no specific knowledge of this set. Edited December 11, 2023 by jazzbo Quote

The two 'Newport Rebels' tracks which MIngus did not play on (Peck Morrison did): 2-7 Cliff Walk 9:41 2-8 T'Aint Nobody's Bizness If I Do 7:14 Quote

I am confused also! Is there something new with Booker Little on it? Quote

When I bought this set I had no idea that they were stealing. https://www.discogs.com/release/4222714-Charles-Mingus-The-Complete-1960-Nat-Hentoff-Sessions Quote

There is no indication they have access to original sources to work from, no licensing, they are using the mastering of other labels with possibly a little EQ or compression tweaking to escape being accused/sued for using the work of others. Whether this is "shady" I guess is a judgment call and whether one is in the US or Europe (the copyright years vary). But I don't consider them completely on the up and up. Quote

JSngry Posted December 12, 2023 Report Posted December 12, 2023 It's one thing to buy that kind of stuff here and there. We all are weak and indulge. It's another thing to enthusiastically advocate for it. Beware of false profits! Quote

In my earlier years I had bought a few things from these labels but I’ve gone out of the way to rid my collection of them. On the copyright question I believe 70 years is now the EU standard. Quote
