romualdo Posted November 16, 2023 Report Posted November 16, 2023 (edited) The DIW releases of Zorn's Masada are being reissued in a Tzadik box this month (Shipping October 30th from Tzadik site) - looks like a 10 CD set https://tzadik.limitedrun.com/products/748363-masada-30th-anniversary-edition-the-complete-studio-master-takes Jazz Messengers is already selling them according to their website https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/98478/john-zorn/masada-30th-anniversary-edition-10-cd-s?mc_cid=dde9509a26&mc_eid=5c16ab7b46 Edited November 16, 2023 by romualdo Quote

Rabshakeh Posted November 17, 2023 Report Posted November 17, 2023 I always preferred the live records.to their studio records. Quote
greggery peccary Posted November 27, 2023 Report Posted November 27, 2023 The Tzadik website appears to have been down the past few days. A "maintenance" screen has been popping up. Has anyone else been having this problem? Quote

A "maintenance" screen has been popping up. Has anyone else been having this problem? It still was saying Maintenance this evening, which does seem like an exceptionally long time to be down... This link does seem to work, however: https://www.tzadik.com/home_frame.php It does recommend ordering all these sets through DMG. At one point, there was very limited material from Tzadik on the various streaming services. It looks like quite a lot has been added about a year ago, including a nearly complete run of Book of Angels, but the Masada material is a bit spotty. It is possible to stream Masada Guitars (which is actually Masada Anniversary Vol 1.) and then Masada Anniversary Vols 2-5. Also, the New Masada Quartet is available, but quite a bit from the box set is left out. As far as I can tell, the individual volumes in these Bagatelle box sets is not available. No idea if it might be added at some later date. I'm tempted by some of the sets, but I think first I really should try to absorb all the other music on Tzadik which became available a while back. T.D. Posted August 19 Report Posted August 19 DMG shows the box on their website as "SPECIAL", so it doesn't appear to be in stock yet. $250 if signed by John Zorn, $175 otherwise. Quote
romualdo Posted August 19 Author Report Posted August 19 It's also currently available at Jazz Messengers (Spain) https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/98478/john-zorn/masada-30th-anniversary-edition-10-cd-s?mot_tcid=e88200e0-2133-48b8-8f1f-4fbd9d5a9f34 Just found this on the Hoffman forum Yes, DMG is the only place to get it now. Unfortunately, Limited Run (who had been distirbuting this and the other limited Tzadik releases) went bankrupt, and apparenlty Tzadik is out $70,000. Word is that many who ordered through SEcond City also never received their box. This is the second time Tzadik has been burned by a distributor--they were part of the Pledge Music disaster in 2019. There's a series of benefit concerts this month & also a donation link if any of you are interested: Improv Nights 2024: A Tribute to Derek Bailey (night 1) Quote
king ubu Posted August 22 Report Posted August 22 How can it contain 10 discs, all 10 albums in their original constellation, plus an hour or rare (note: not previously unreleased – there was a separate bonus release too if I remember correctly?) additional music? Quote

The original volume 4 (forget the specific name) was just 3 songs — barely 19+ minutes long iirc. It was the ‘bonus’ release after vols 1-3 first came out, and I think(?) it was only available if you bought all of 1-3, or you could get it free if you got 1-3 — I never figured out those details (I got mine used). I’m fairly sure they added the bonus stuff to vol 4 — since it was SO short to begin with. Edited August 22 by Rooster_Ties Quote

Looks like you're right ... tracklisting for disc 4 via Discogs - #4-10 look like that bonus material: Dalet 4-1 Midbar 4-2 Mahlah 4-3 Zenan 4-4 Paran (rehearsal) 4-5 Mikreh (Alternate Take) 4-6 Hafla'ah (insert) 4-7 Shebuah (insert) 4-8 Tiferet (rehearsal) 4-9 Avelut (false start / take 1) 4-10 Avelut (take 2) But the bonus release I meant is this, which is a double disc set, mostly consisting of alternate takes, it seems (I only spot-checked): https://www.discogs.com/de/master/1567371-Masada-Sanhedrin-1994-1997-Unreleased-Studio-Recordings Seems there is no overlap, the new material (wonder what "insert" means) actually new, but the "Sanhedrin" set not part of the box?
