JamesAHarrod Posted October 10, 2023 Report Posted October 10, 2023 Many forum members know Steve Cerra through his Jazz Profiles column and recent substack debut. Steve has been working on amassing a collection of writings that celebrate the genius of Gerry Mulligan. Those efforts were crystallized yesterday with the publication of A Gerry Mulligan Reader : Writings on a Jazz Original. https://www.amazon.com/Gerry-Mulligan-Reader-Writings-Original-ebook/dp/B0CKQBJ95B/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3VFSVP9MD6JSZ&keywords=Cerra&qid=1696955880&s=books&sprefix=cera%2Cstripbooks%2C212&sr=1-2 It is a cornucopia of essential writings concerning Mulligan, a resource that is long overdue. Ken Dryden Posted October 12, 2023 Report Posted October 12, 2023 I am interested but given what a disaster Klinkowitz’s book on Gerry Mulligan was, I think that there were better writers available to contribute a blurb. When I interviewed Mulligan in 1995, he expressed dissatisfaction with Klinkowitz’s book. Quote
jlhoots Posted October 12, 2023 Report Posted October 12, 2023 I didn't like the Klinkowitz book either. Quote
adh1907 Posted October 12, 2023 Report Posted October 12, 2023 Alyn Shipton’s recent book on Mulligan looks more interesting. An original piece, not cut and paste: http://www.alynshipton.co.uk/writing/the-gerry-mulligan-1950s-quartets/ Quote
