RSD Black Friday 2023

So it seems like the question I had a couple of weeks ago is being answered -  what is coming in the way of archival releases for holiday shoppers/consumers?

Am I the only one feeling a bit disappointed?  More of the same: Ahmad Jamal and Wes Montgomery and two that are a little surprising, Les McCann and Grif. To be honest I'd be more interested in the Griff with a different rhythm section.

Does anyone know if Real to Reel has anything going on? Maybe it wasn't realistic to hope that more Left Bank cassettes were coming this year, but hope springs eternal for 2024, I guess.

Thoughts, comments or emotional outbursts?

Funny I didn't even know that there had been archival releases of OP and this new one is number four apparently.

I guess what it boils down to for me is fewer legends, more working musicians who didn't do annual international tours. 

More Left Bank or releases from the late lamented Uptown Records (what a shame all we ever got out of the purchase of those reels was the Hank Mobley/Bennie Green recordings).

More on the Mingus please? Is it "previously unreleased" or just "unreleased"? Candid did some "previously unreleased" material a few decades ago.

Yes, thank-you!

The Mingus looks interesting.  And the Wes, particularly if the sound is good.  Wes a little hard for the older guy to hear under muddy circumstances.

I had no idea that Chico's 'The Master' existed and then was very surprised to discover he's playing with Little Feat (who I liked a lot in my younger days) on it. Gave it some online sampling, still undecided

It's an okay session, not essential for either a Chico or Little Feat fan imo. I have it on cd from Culture Factory.

I think most of what Moosicus releases is from NDR. The Browns are great and as far as I know they haven't been reissued (there are a couple of different 70s pressing variations, however).

This. It's fun, but not the type of fun worth going to war for.

As a document, though, there it is. Chico playing with Little Feat, and nobody sucking.

I went to RSD this past Friday. Based on my experience (and from what others wrote on Hoffman) it seemed like a dud and record store owners probably got stuck with a lot of unwanted inventory.

I passed on many of the jazz releases because they will be available in cd. Even in cd, I may not pick up the Bill Evans as there’s been a lot of Evans lately.

I bought the Bill Evans on LP. Fine LP in very good sound - with the under-rated Israels/Bunker lineup apart from one track. It's one of the best of these Evans releases IMO.

I'm inclined to pick up some of the others on CD when they come out. Hardly any of the others seem to be on LP here in the UK and the CD versions are about a third of the price.
