I think Evans' music is consistently interesting. I'm a fan.

Flip the Script is my favorite of his albums, but I've enjoyed all that I've heard.

How much has he evolved? My reactions to the first few were more or less "interesting but not really compelling" and I stopped caring. But that was a while back.

He was very good with Tarbaby and David Murray at Big Ears earlier this year

It was a tough choice between Tarbaby and Makaya McCraven, but I went with the latter. I've seen Orin Evans a few times; he seems like a solid player in the Philly piano tradition. The last time was in the Sean Jones Quartet.

We saw Evans in Baltimore recently-liked most of what we heard. Atonal at times but then quite melodic. Excellent band with Smitty Smith on drums providing real drive. Evans gave his band plenty of room and everyone was having a great time.
