Sundog Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Inspired in part by the jazz=good vibes thread.... What are examples of songs that make you happy the minute you hear them? I think this was also an old BNBB thread, which I quite enjoyed reading. Figured I'd start it up again. Here's a few to start things off... Air Mail Special In Walked Bud My Favorite Things St. Thomas West Coast Blues Jack The Bear My Sweet Lord Sleepwalk Blue Sky Albatross Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Albert Ayler's "Ghosts" makes me jump up and dance. So does Horace Parlan's "Us Three"! Quote
Brandon Burke Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Albert Ayler's "Ghosts" makes me jump up and dance. So does Horace Parlan's "Us Three"! I agree about "Ghosts" and I think most up-tempo Ornette would fall into this category as well. These pieces seem to emphasize the celebratory side of the blues. On an altogether different note, I'll suggest the version of "Ginza Samba" on Stan Getz with Cal Tjader. Quote
LAL Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Billy Strayhorn/Duke's "Take the A Train". A well-recorded live version always gives good cheer and uplifts the spirits. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Albert Ayler's "Ghosts" makes me jump up and dance. So does Horace Parlan's "Us Three"! I would like to see that. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Most Monk, most Lacy. Even when Lacy takes a solo in the middle of side two of Silva's "Seasons," it cracks me up. He's a funny motherfucker. "Hilariously/Hilarious Paris" and "Giblet" by Sunny Murray. He's got that offbeat Cecil-Ayler hybrid thing to his heads that just makes me smile every time. Quote
Sundog Posted April 2, 2004 Author Report Posted April 2, 2004 On an altogether different note, I'll suggest the version of "Ginza Samba" on Stan Getz with Cal Tjader. Good call. Love that song. Quote
Chrome Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 The version of "Love is a many splendored thing" on Clifford Brown/Max Roach's "At Basin Street." Quote

tjobbe Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 the Vince Guaraldi Boy named Charlie Brown makes me smile when ever I put that into the player as well as the Tjader/Getz/Guaraldi Ginza Samba gives me some hard times keeping my feet on the ground Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 A Laugh for Rory That is a happy song alright. I even put it on a compilation of tunes for the kids that was all kid type music except for that one! "SunDog" is pretty happy too! Quote
TedR Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Off Bob Moses' Time Stood Still........."Word from the RA" with Bob Moses' young son doing an adorable funny rap and fooling around with the alto sax.........and on the same cd "Elegant Blue Ghosts" with some hot soloing over funky rhythms followed by a tap dancer! No matter my energy level it gets me playing air drums every time. Quote
Dave James Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Hoedown from Oliver Nelson's The Blues and the Abstract Truth. As close as jazz and country music will probably ever get. Thank God for small favors! Up over and out. Quote
patricia Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 (edited) Max Kaminsky, "Dixieland-Chicago Style". This record also has Pee Wee Russell playing like a maniac and the magnificent George Wettling on drums. Love it. Love it. When the final piano has been dropped on me, on a particularly trying day, I just put that LP on and I feel 100% better. Edited April 3, 2004 by patricia Quote

BruceH Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 On an altogether different note, I'll suggest the version of "Ginza Samba" on Stan Getz with Cal Tjader. YES to that!!!!
