Joe Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 A good life, well-lived. Glad he spent some time with us and made some sounds that will continue to resonate. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 Impressed to find out that Bill Clinton was a fan. Quote

mikeweil Posted June 25, 2023 Report Posted June 25, 2023 RIP. I never was a fan, but always felt deep respect for his attitude. Saw him twice with Globe Unity and he was great on both occasions. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted June 25, 2023 Report Posted June 25, 2023 Brotz only rarely did much for me, but he stuck to his guns so hats off and RIP. Quote
mjzee Posted June 25, 2023 Report Posted June 25, 2023 I missed my chance to see him. This was about 20 years ago, and Dizzy's Jazz Club at Lincoln Center had a double-bill of Steve Lacy and Mal Waldron opening for Brotzmann. I went with my wife. Trouble was, the club's A/C was broken, and it was really hot and stuffy in there. We stayed for Lacy and Waldron and then split. Ah well. My tolerance for noise has diminished as I get older; still, it would have been interesting to experience the full Brotzmann live. RIP. Quote

Justin V Posted July 15, 2023 Report Posted July 15, 2023 It's hard to find words. I'm thankful that I was able to see him a handful of times and experience his cavernous sound and highly melodic playing in person. His playing told stories that were starkly beautiful and even devastating in their range. For all of the power he projected, his personal demeanor seemed quiet and gentle. Thank you for the music, Mr. Brotzmann, and rest in peace. Quote
