Steve Reynolds
Very reliable source just confirmed this the granddaddy of them all 82 years old. Toured the world for 50 plus years. Influence beyond immense. there has never been a *sound* that comes close to Herr Brotzmann on the tenor this one hurts / along with Evan Parker, he is my most listened to reed player Plus the 2 shows of his Tentet in 2000 & 2002 remain the greatest sets of live music I’ve ever witnessed RIP, sir
colinmce
i’m at a loss as to how to encompass the breath of his music— so many recordings over so many years of such immense quality. it will just have to be here forever, because we will never see another like him again. clifford_thornton
Incredible artist and human on so many levels. Brötzmann was the first musician I ever interviewed and he was extremely kind and patient as well as being incredibly deep. Unforgettable experience just to be around him not only in a performance setting but a few social situations as well. Thank you, PB.
Misterioso
This is sad news. No other artist meant as much to me as Peter Brötzmann. I will miss him dearly. RIP
mhatta
I am shocked as I have coincidentally been re-listening to Brotzmann's old work for the past few days. For Adolphe Sax, Machine Gun...incredible music. RIP.

Rabshakeh
Sad news, although not unanticipated given the recent post. Lots of great memories of seeing him live, including earlier this year at OTO. One of the biggest remaining names in the music, and, along with Pharaoh Sanders, one of the few to really achieve wider renown. RIP. EKE BBB
RIP I saw him live only once, with his Tentet at the San Juan Evanglista. I was seated in the first row, admired at how his guts were coming out of his horn...
mjazzg
Oh no! True titan for so many years, a radical at the forefront of European, and worldwide, music for nearly 60 years. He leaves such a broad discography. Like @RabshakehI was privileged to see him at Oto a few months ago. He played with great depth and verve. The subsequent announcement of his illness didn't really equate with that concert experience. The Tentet+1 Oto concert is still one of the most memorable I have attended. He was a good friend of Oto and visited regularly. Once at Oto I grabbed a quick word with him and he was so self-deprecating about what he'd just played. Let's also not forget his graphic art. Saw the same duo here in Brisbane (Australia) round the same time, even spoke to him after the concert. Also loved his artwork, much of it adorning LP & CD covers RIP Peter, one of the greats
