Have the other numbers  with Ellington in  the film ever been release on cd? (Hesitation Blues, Troubled Waters etc.)

I believe so Joe. There are recordings from four Hollywood sessions on the same Classics cd, though no "Hesitation Blues":

11 to 13: Hollywood, April 12, 1934

These are studio recordings with Ivie Anderson and not with Mae West.

Volume 7 was supposed to be released today but I see no sign of it.  I took a look through Duke discography and I think this volume will contain very little not on the two Mosaic sets.  Curious to see what is actually coming out.

Someone on the Hoffman board posted that volume 7 will be available tonight ("9 PM Pacific").

Here is the list of Pathé/Plaza recordings.

The Plaza group issued records on various labels (no claim to be complete): Cameo Romeo, Perfect, Banner, Oriole, Regal. 

MoJ = masters of jazz volume, track number, Cl = classics, track number, N = Neatwork volume, track number, COL 2LP = French CBS complete Duke Ellington 2 LP sets volume and Lp 1 or 2 (track info not included).

I copied this from my excel file hence those lines. 10357-3 Rockin' Chair has never been reissued.

There has been no official reissue of these recordings since the French 2LP sets.

Duke in Order vol 7 is now available on Spotify.

54 tracks from 29-7-1936 to 29-4-1937.

Missing are the 16-12-1936 Rex Stewart session Rexatious and Lazy Man Shuffle (2 takes each), and the 25-3-1937 Gotham

Stompers session (This is with Ellingtonians and members of the Chick Webb orchestra but without Duke).

 

The tracks correspondent with the Mosaic Bigband set CD 6 track 8-22, disc 7 tracks 1-6 (master takes) 14-18 (alternate takes).

And from the Small Groups set Disc 1 tracks 9-24. Tracks 5-8 is the Rex Stewart session.  Disc 2 tracks 1-4 and 10-17. Tracks 5-9 is the Gotham Stompers session.

I have not heard from Chuck Granata recently so contacted Sony Music about the Ellington In Order series. They say:

"There have been some reorganizational shifts at SME since the top of the year - so we are assessing decreasing bandwidth capacity at the moment.
That said - we do intend to carry on with the series sometime later in the year."

Don't know what is meant by"reorganisational shifts" but I am hopeful that the series will ultimately resume.

On the other hand, I want to add something about people who complain about the Centennial box. I have found that a lot of what people consider to be bad transfers in various Victor/BMG reissues is actually bad equalization. Years ago I shocked Larry Gushee by playing back some of the BMG Morton, re-eq'd, and though I have not had a chance to do it, I wonder if the Centennial box has the same issue, because I believe the transfers were done by Lasker. And even in 1999 it was possible to do these in great sound; digital conversion has improved, but with old recordings like these if they were carefully done you probably would not hear the difference. I am uncertain, but we often blame things like No Noise, which I can say was DEFINITELY not the problem. It was engineers who thought you could roll off the highs as a method of noise reduction. Of course not everyone is like me and wants to go to the trouble of restoring the restoration. But I will say that 80 percent of the reissues I hear, even when well done, are poorly set in the final eq stages and are correctable.

Allen, those "Ellington in Order" volumes are not physical product.

I myself have fewer issues listening to the Centennial material than it seems others do.

Oh goody, I like this series very much!  Sound is good, consistent approach.  We were just getting to a lot of the best stuff in the mid and late 30's and then the monthly releases stopped.

I believe this to be the case, based on a "DIY" re-eq'ing of the 1927-1934 Victor singles and 1940-1942 Victor & Bluebird singles from the Centennial box that was done by an unknown member of the Hoffman forum. He claimed that the box had employed some of the strangest EQ decisions he had ever heard, including an extreme "smiley-faced" EQ, and set out to remedy this, using an Ellington collection mastered by John R. T. Davies for a British label as a reference baseline for his re-eq'ing. I'm pretty far removed from having either "golden ears" or high-end listening equipment, but the results he achieved were readily apparent even over a set of computer speakers when A-Bing his versions against the corresponding discs in the Centennial box.

I will probably have some time next month and I plan on doing same, reworking some things from the Centennial box. Will report back.
