Sicilian sax player Gianni Gebbia performed with Damon Smith on bass and Garth Powell on drums at the Black Box in Oakland on Tuesday. The trio moved through a variety of styles (it would have been good to hear a second set). The featured group was Rova performing some recent material, including Jon Raskin's "Jukebox Detroit" and "Jukebox Choro," Steve Adams' "Survival," and Larry Ochs' "S." The group also played "Proclamation" from Gino Robair's opera-in-progress I, NORTON (about Emperor Norton). Highly recommend this group to fans of musical adventure.
