The Michel Petrucciani that was just released is excellent but I also wish that was a multi-cd set. Quote
ejp626 Posted May 27, 2023 Report Posted May 27, 2023 I'll probably pick this up but agree it is far from ideal. Quote

JSngry Posted May 29, 2023 Report Posted May 29, 2023 Still wondering how this is a BMG product? Quote
Eric Posted May 29, 2023 Report Posted May 29, 2023 I wonder whether this is one of these online only releases where the notes are only available via pdf? Answering my own question - no, physical product: https://www.montreuxjazzshop.com/en/boutique/music/vinyls/mccoy-tyner-the-montreux-years-cd/ Quote
ghost of miles Posted May 30, 2023 Report Posted May 30, 2023 Thanks for the heads-up on this... just pre-ordered through my local record store. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted May 31, 2023 Report Posted May 31, 2023 Ordered on Monday, along with the Michel Petrucciani. Quote

thirdtry Posted May 31, 2023 Report Posted May 31, 2023 There's also a Modern Jazz Quartet at Montreux CD coming the same day as the Tyner. Quote
Eric Posted May 31, 2023 Report Posted May 31, 2023 Interesting they also have a Motorhead set for sale. How is that a BMG product??? Quote
jazzbo Posted May 31, 2023 Report Posted May 31, 2023 (edited) Well, I guess there was some sort of conglomerate Montreux licensing deal that was made with BMG enabled by some European laws and/or the nature of the festival performance contracts. Edited May 31, 2023 by jazzbo Quote

kh1958 Posted June 25, 2023 Report Posted June 25, 2023 To be specific about what is actually on this 84 minute CD: Latino Suite: From 1986, this is a trio performance, with Avery Sharpe and Louis Hayes. Eternally Yours: From 1981, this is solo piano. Fly With the Wind: From 2009,a quintet performance, with Gary Bartz, Bill Frisell, Gerald Cannon, and Eric Gravatt. Walk Spirit, Talk Spirit: From 1981, this is an octet, featuring John Blake and Arthur Blythe, in addition to McCoy, on this track. Ask Me Now: from 1986, this is a duet of McCoy Tyner and Joe Henderson. African Village and Ballad for Aisha: Both from 2009, the same quintet as above. A 3 CD set of all three concerts would have been nicer, but what is here is rather good. Quote

Ken Dryden Posted June 26, 2023 Report Posted June 26, 2023 If you order any of The Montreux Years CD series, especially from Amazon, play them promptly. When I opened my copy of the Tyner CD today, there was glue residue on the edge of the playing surface rendering the last track unplayable. I am not always prompt about playing my Amazon purchases and that 30 day window can arrive in seemingly no time. Quote
