ghost of miles
Had to MC a concert last night—a damned enjoyable concert!—and didn’t get to follow the game much, but wow! And of course Garcia’s walkoff is the big highlight, but Seager’s 9th-inning bomb was an electrifying moment as well. Re Garcia, is that five straight postseason games in which he’s hit a HR? Gotta be a record, right? I’ve been watching baseball off and on since the mid-1970s, and I’m hard-pressed to recall an extended offensive performance similar to what he’s done so far this autumn. JSngry
Arizona is a formidable opponent. I wish the Rangers showed more "small ball" skills when appropriate. The dramatic Rangers homers are exciting, but the D-Backs ability to move their runners is most impressive. Quality games await, regardless of outcome. GA Russell
Frank Howard has died at 87. RIP. Frank Howard, the Washington Senators’ ‘Capital Punisher,’ dies at 87 (msn.com) I attended the Senators' last game (1971). Howard hit a home run, to everyone's delight. He was so big, he made his bat look like a stick.

Yes there is still a month left but there's a difference between tough losses and folding. This team is folding. Have to bring this post back as the Rangers sit at one away from a ring. Ken Dryden
I feel like odds are strongly against the Diamondbacks at this point, but Yogi Berra's quote comes to mind.

ghost of miles
Score early, score often, and then hold on to your britches! This is pretty remarkable—from Lone Star Ball’s postgame writeup: “The Rangers became the first team in World Series history to put together back-to-back innings of five runs or more. Every one of those runs came with two outs.“

"One game away" just means that you're not there yet. 2011 was traumatic. The ingrained horror will be there until it isn't. 38 minutes ago, ghost of miles said: Score early, score often, and then hold on to your britches! ghost of miles
Texas-sized congratulations are in order for the Rangers and their fans! Very happy to see you guys pick up a WS trophy and exorcise the heartbreak of 2011.
Dan Gould
Went to bed top of 8, runner on first and wondering if the Rangers would top it off by their bullpen coming thru on the road with a 1-run lead. As it turns out they would have but didn't need to. Congrats to the team, franchise and long-suffering fans here and elsewhere. Now where is that damn Hot Stove thread? Craig Breslow has a metric crap-ton of work to do on the Red Sox.

No idea I just hope that the new regime in charge spends and does it wisely. And regarding Stanton, about the only thing worse Cash might have added is "we think it could be 'roid related. We're looking into that." <green smilie emoji I miss every day here> Edited November 15, 2023 by Dan Gould
