Niko Posted May 14, 2024 Report Posted May 14, 2024 I've streamed In Sommerhausen a few weeks ago and thought it sounded great ... Probably helped that the music is so good... And, indeed, it would be super weird if this wasn't the same version as on the CD - but I'm fairly ignorant about audio matters so curious about everyone else's verdict Quote
JSngry Posted May 15, 2024 Report Posted May 15, 2024 Listening to it now. It sounds just fine. Quote

Dub Modal Posted May 15, 2024 Report Posted May 15, 2024 Yeah, Sommerhausen is fine streaming. A little on the LOUD side but not problematic. Quote
JSngry Posted May 15, 2024 Report Posted May 15, 2024 @AndreyHenkin that was a most illuminating article. THank you! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 15, 2024 Report Posted May 15, 2024 I never had any problems with the sound of the original LPs so if they are indeed needle-drops from mint copies they should be okay. That Jackson article is great, yes, been ages since I read it. I guess he lived right around where I am now. Quote
AndreyHenkin Posted May 16, 2024 Report Posted May 16, 2024 @optatio@JSngry@clifford_thornton What is not indicated in the article was that I interviewed Mr. Jackson while he was in hospice care and that he nearly died during the interview (and did a couple of days later). Quote

I wouldn't rule out a needle-drop (maybe the CD sound lacks a bit of "imaging", whatever that might be), but if so it wasn't a botched one. Quote

To be honest, I never thought of "to" in the inclusive sense, given that many of the packages prune tracks from the component albums. 🤔 Expand Ended up with both and the sound is quite similar (not to say almost identical) to these ears... not great, but very much okay. Guess I'll pass on the ezz-thetics, as I already have a reissue of "Three for Shepp" (Impulse Master Edition or whatever that was called, bought around 25 years ago, I guess. Quote

Last fall, I bought Three for Shepp, the Gesprachsfetzen/ In Sommerhausen, and Mary Ann/Bremen 1969 sets. As if the ESP/Polydor records weren't good enough...wow, it gets better! Sounds great, so I can't tell you if it's needle drop or not; but it sounds pretty fine to these ears. Quote
