Dang. Real bummer.

I bought the first couple of releases in the series, but own so many Nimbus and Tapscott recordings that I stopped there.

Does anyone have a contact at Dusty Groove? They might have some inside "industry" info on the label.

I wouldn't write it off yet.  I believe that Matt is an honest man, and that this is a labor of love for him.  Let's see what happens over the next few weeks.  That being said, I wouldn't be sending more money to Nimbus West until there is some clarification of the status.

Yeah I believe Matt is a sincere person definitely but maybe he’s in financial trouble. The lack of communication is definitely frustrating and a bit rude. Can’t do anything about it of course

I'm inclined to agree re. Matt.

Trouble is (and I know from some personal experience and that of acquaintances), seemingly good people can get in over their heads (especially if they lack business acumen), and losses can mushroom, leading to perplexing behavior.

Definitely should wait and see (is there any choice?). But if the business has really cratered, in particular if the owner has had to "lawyer up", it could be grim.

What was Red Trumpet?

Discussion on Audiogon forum

[Added] Might as well file a claim with your credit card company. If I was still in the securities trading industry, I'd have written any Nimbus obligations down to near zero by this point.

A totally delightful mail order place out of Pennsylvania that featured a choice inventory of Japanese imports at totally affordable prices. I think they also sold HiFi accessories as well.

Long story short, they vaporized without warning, one day they were there then one day they weren't. And as far as I know they never resurfaced

Fortunately, I didn't have any outstanding orders, but that was total luck.

I feel like such a fool now. Payed more than 250 dollars and ending up with zero cd's from the series. This sucks big time :(

Pretty rude.

The annoying part (aside from the theft) is the inclination to give the benefit of the doubt, to make excuses, to make allowances against one's better judgement.

Probably should have called the credit card company a few months ago - not sure they'll cover something I paid for in July 2023.

But you wanna trust, don't you.

Ah well, not the first time and almost assuredly not the last - hope everything is okay on the other end of it.

Yeah, the "pay $250 upfront" thing should have been a huge red flag.

I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't a scam. More likely it was an ill-conceived project, and the officers kept running up unrecoverable losses rather than pulling the plug (possibly poor judgement, or OTOH unwillingness to admit mistakes and "lock in a loss").

I really doubt it was a scam because most of the series shipped (to a lot, though sadly not all, of us).

The guy just overcommitted and botched the execution

+1.  The up front payment was no doubt seed money to pay for the production costs.

I mean most of the series shipped so if it was a scam it was a terrible one.

i preordered the 3 LPs from this summer. Bummer if I don’t get them but I’ve wasted money on worse dreams.

This whole thing is a shocker - no further messing about from me, credit card claim under way. Bearing in mind the last message from them requesting payment for postage as shipping 'imminent' back in Sept I'm less than amused.

Makes me think they have a cheek to bad-mouth Outernational the way they did on their home page. Pots calling kettles etc.

Funnily enough I ordered a record cleaning machine from them not too long before they went bust. It arrived safe and sound, was very happy with the order and they (Rick) were excellent to deal with and very helpful.

Always. Which is why their sudden disappearance was a real shock, like the sudden death of a good friend.

what a bummer!! Wonder how many full subscribers are out there who opted for the lot in one go  (10 releases) & so far havn't received any yet (or never will?) I'm still hoping - not going to make a CC claim yet (if that's possible over here with a product purchased from the states). Maybe he'll renew his site over the next few days?
